Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.

Diagnosing vitamin B-12 deficiency on the basis of serum B-12 assay [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 2006
Serum vitamin B-12 concentrations are measured to assess the presence of its deficiency in patients presenting with haematolological, neurological, and neuropsychiatric abnormalities. Replacement therapy is instituted promptly, particularly to prevent irreversible neurological and cognitive dysfunction.

Lipid Nanoparticle‐Mediated CRISPR‐Cas13a Delivery for the Control of Bacterial Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
New formulations of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) that can deliver nucleic acids to Gram‐negative bacteria are proposed to combat bacterial infection. The delivery of nucleic acids by LNPs is aided by LNP‐helpers which weaken the bacterial outer membrane. LNPs encapsulating the Cas13a/gRNA expression vector achieve an antibacterial effect in both in vivo ...

The effect of Helicobacter pylori on vitamin B 12 blood levels in chronic renal failure patients: A single blind control trial

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, 2013
Helicobacter pylori (HP) is a common infection worldwide and has been associated with severe morbidity. The level of vitamin B 12 in HP-infected chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients is reported to be lower than in the general population.

Evidence from web-based dietary search patterns to the role of B12 deficiency in chronic pain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Profound vitamin B12 deficiency is a known cause of disease, but the role of low or intermediate levels of B12 in the development of neuropathy and other neuropsychiatric symptoms as well as the relationship of eating meat and B12 levels is unclear.

The impact of niobium doping upon the magnetotransport properties of the oxygen-deficient perovskite SrCo1-xNbxO3-d [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters 86, 192504 (2005), 2005
The oxygen-deficient perovskite cobaltite SrCo1-xNbxO3-d was synthesized by direct solid-state reaction and its magnetotransport properties were investigated. This cobaltite exhibits an unusual ferromagnetic behavior with a transition temperature Tm = 130-150 K and a spin glass like behavior below Tm.

Gasotransmitters in Modern Medicine: Promises and Challenges in the Use of Porous Crystalline Carriers

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective provides an overview of the growing interest in utilizing various gasotransmitters—small gaseous signaling molecules namely nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S)—for several therapeutic applications, with emphasis on the potential use of porous materials as carriers to provide safe and controlled local ...

On deficiency problems for graphs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Motivated by analogous questions in the setting of Steiner triple systems and Latin squares, Nenadov, Sudakov and Wagner [Completion and deficiency problems, Journal of Combinatorial Theory Series B, 2020] recently introduced the notion of graph deficiency. Given a global spanning property $\mathcal P$ and a graph $G$, the deficiency $\text{def}(G)$ of
