BMJ, 2006 Serum vitamin B-12 concentrations are measured to assess the presence of its deficiency in patients presenting with haematolological, neurological, and neuropsychiatric abnormalities. Replacement therapy is instituted promptly, particularly to prevent irreversible neurological and cognitive dysfunction.
