Assessment of the Effects of Double-Stranded RNAs Corresponding to Multiple Vitellogenesis-Inhibiting Hormone Subtype I Peptides in Subadult Female Whiteleg Shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
Vitellogenesis-inhibiting hormone (VIH) negatively regulates reproduction in shrimp and other decapod crustaceans. In order to assess the effects of transcriptional silencing by multiple VIH subtype I sinus gland peptides (SGPs) on ovarian maturation in ...

Unusual Functions of Insect Vitellogenins: Minireview

open access: yesPhysiological Research, 2023
Insect vitellogenins are an intriguing class of complex proteins. They primarily serve as a source of energy for the developing embryo in insect eggs. Vitellogenesis is a complex hormonally and neurally controlled process that command synthesis of vitellogenin molecules and ensures their transport from the female fat bodies or ovarial cells into eggs ...

Inconsistent Transcriptomic Responses to Hexabromocyclododecane in Japanese Quail: A Comparative Analysis of Results From Four Different Study Designs

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract Efforts to use transcriptomics for toxicity testing have classically relied on the assumption that chemicals consistently produce characteristic transcriptomic signatures that are reflective of their mechanism of action. However, the degree to which transcriptomic responses are conserved across different test methodologies has seldom been ...

Protective Effects of Potential Probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici 100 Against Multi‐Drug‐Resistant Diarrheal Escherichia coli Strains Induced Changes in Caenorhabditis elegans Model System

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This study shows the protective effects of potential probiotic strain of Pediococci strains against diarrheal Escherichia coli strains in Caenorhabditis elegans model system. The E. coli strains resulted in severe morphological and physiological damage to the worm whereas the probiotic interventions were able to reduce these damages.

Importance for humans of recently discovered protein compounds – yolkin and yolk glycopeptide 40, present in the plasma of hen egg yolk

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2023
: Vitellogenin (Vt) is considered the primary protein precursor of egg yolk, serving as a source of protein- and lipid-rich nutrients for the developing embryo.

Interaction between the flagellum of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus and the vitellogenin-like protein of Diaphorina citri significantly influences CLas titer

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Huanglongbing (HLB) is a global devastating citrus disease that is mainly caused by “Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus” (CLas). It is mostly transmitted by the insect Asian citrus psyllid (ACP, Diaphorina citri) in a persistent and proliferative manner ...

Egg yolk hydrolysate shows moderate impact on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND This study investigated the protective effect of egg yolk hydrolysate (FC) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized (OVX) rats, a well‐established model of postmenopausal bone loss. OVX rats were fed diets supplemented with 0.2% or 1% FC for 13 weeks.

Effects of juvenile hormone and ecdysone on the timing of vitellogenin appearance in hemolymph of queen and worker pupae of Apis mellifera

open access: yesJournal of Insect Science, 2002
The caste-specific regulation of vitellogenin synthesis in the honeybee represents a problem with many yet unresolved details. We carried out experiments to determine when levels of vitellogenin are first detected in hemolymph of female castes of Apis ...

A crustacean vitellogenin-derived peptide as an oocyte-specific delivery vehicle for gene silencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Gene silencing by dsRNA is well documented in crustaceans, but RNA interference (RNAi) in developing oocytes is yet to be achieved. The main obstacle to RNAi in the oocytes of oviparous animals derives from their protective layers, including the ...

Regulatory mechanisms of reproduction in locusts and grasshoppers

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
Regulatory networks composed of numerous coding and noncoding genes play crucial roles in the reproduction of locusts and grasshoppers. This review integrates mechanistic advances in reproductive regulation, highlighting environmentally adaptive pathways and providing prospective targets for eco‐friendly pesticides.
