Performance of 2D SOVA Along and Across Track in Shingled Magnetic Recording Media

open access: yesTelfor Journal, 2017
Serial Concatenation of Two Dimensional Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm (2D-SOVA) and regular Viterbi Algorithm (VA) for 2D equalisation and detection of Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) media provides excellent performance as compared to the use of 1 ...

A temporally abstracted Viterbi algorithm

open access: yesCoRR, 2012
Hierarchical problem abstraction, when applicable, may offer exponential reductions in computational complexity. Previous work on coarse-to-fine dynamic programming (CFDP) has demonstrated this possibility using state abstraction to speed up the Viterbi algorithm. In this paper, we show how to apply temporal abstraction to the Viterbi problem.

An Adaptive Learning-Based Approach for Vehicle Mobility Prediction

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
This work presents an innovative methodology to predict the future trajectories of vehicles when its current and previous locations are known. We propose an algorithm to adapt the vehicles trajectories' data based on consecutive GPS locations and to ...

Hidden Markov graphical models with state‐dependent generalized hyperbolic distributions

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article, we develop a novel hidden Markov graphical model to investigate time‐varying interconnectedness between different financial markets. To identify conditional correlation structures under varying market conditions and accommodate shape features embedded in financial time series, we rely upon the generalized hyperbolic family of ...

Improved Decoding Algorithms for Convolutional Codes

open access: yesКібернетика та комп'ютерні технології
Introduction. The considered implementation of the Viterbi algorithm provides a reduction in hardware and time costs for decoding convoluted code sequences, and can be used for semi-realistic modeling of existing means of data transmission (for example ...

Behavioural state identification from ultra‐high‐frequency movement data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract The hidden Markov model (HMM) is a central framework for identifying behavioural state changes from animal movement data. In this context, movement is typically represented as a sequence of observed metrics, such as step length and turning angle distributions, generated by an unobserved behavioural state process.

Impact of global change on the distribution of mountain mammals and birds

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Climate change and land‐use changes are key drivers of global biodiversity loss. Many species are shifting to higher elevations or latitudes in response to global warming, often encountering unfavorable land‐use conditions during the shift. These changes can lead to reduced range size and increased extinction risks, particularly for mountain ...
