Dressing of vitrified bonded CBN tools for continuous generating grinding

Production Engineering, 2014
Profile accuracy, high surface quality and compressive residual stress in the tooth root and flank are necessary for a high durability of heavy stressed gears. This article shows the advantages of vitrified bonded cubic boron nitride (CBN) tools in comparison to corundum tools relating producible compressive residual stress. In this context, especially

Influence of Diamond Particles Coated with TiO2 Film on Wettability of Vitrified Bond and Transverse Rupture Strength (TRS) of Vitrified Bond Composites

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2016
TiO2 films were prepared on the surface of the diamond particles using a classical sol-gel method. The results showed that the TiO2 covered on the diamond surface as a rough and dense film with anatase phase, and tightly combined with the diamond substrates via the Ti-O-C bond.

Research on High Performance Vitrified Bond Diamond Wheel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Two kinds of vitrified bonds, bond L (low temperature bond) and bond G (high strength bond), were blended by ball-milling in producing diamond wheels. Proper Sintering techniques were employed by analyzing properties of the wheel through DSC testing and fracture strength.

Analysis of Bond Formation in Vitrified Abrasive Wheels

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1974
The formation of bonds in vitrified abrasive wheels is treated as a transient viscous flow process to determine if particles in a wheel are in direct contact. Two initially separated solid spheres are found to be drawn together by surface tension, so that particles are indeed in contact during a typical firing cycle.

Effect of ZnO on the interfacial bonding between Na2O–B2O3–SiO2 vitrified bond and diamond

Solid State Sciences, 2009
Diamond composites were prepared by sintering diamond grains with low melting Na2O–B2O3–SiO2 vitrified bonds in air. The influence of ZnO on the wettability and flowing ability of Na2O–B2O3–SiO2 vitrified bonds was characterized by wetting angle, the interfacial bonding states between diamond grains and the vitrified bonds were observed by scanning ...

Mechanical properties of new vitrified bonds for cBN grinding wheel

International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing, 2009
In this study, three ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 frit compositions with low softening point were investigated in order to lower the firing temperature of cBN-based vitrified bonded wheel. It was tried to develop a new composition of vitrified bond with lower firing temperature and compatible mechanical properties compared with conventional bond by evaluating the ...

Fractal modeling method for 3D structure of vitrified-bonded wheel

Precision Engineering, 2007
Abstract Our goal is the development of the morphological model faithfully representing the structure of a real vitrified-bonded wheel in order to determine the wheel structure to meet a required wheel grade and derive the wheel composition to form such a wheel structure. This paper describes the two and new morphological model for a vitrified-bonded

The In-Process Dressing Characteristics of Vitrified Bonded CBN Grinding Wheels

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1993
When grinding carbon steels, creep-resistant materials, and other metals such a titanium, cubic boron nitride (CBN) has become recognized as the preferred choice over Al2O3 and SiC. The succes or failure of the grinding process with CBN lies in the mechanical dressing of the wheel because mechanical dressing is accompanied by very large stresses that ...

Dressing process model for vitrified bonded grinding wheels

CIRP Annals, 2008
A holistic dressing process model for vitrified bonded grinding wheels was designed. It regards the dressing process as a tribological system subjected to a complex load collective. The intensive analysis of the input variables and their impact on the system function led to new knowledge about the acting mechanisms.
