Vividness and content

open access: yesMind & Language, 2023
The notion of subjective vividness plays a fundamental role in comparing different conscious experiences, yet it is poorly understood and lacks proper definition. Philosophical reflection on this topic is especially scarce. This article proposes a novel account of vividness arguing that its standard operationalisation in psychology conflates two major ...

Relative vividness ratings for Experiment 3.

open access: yes, 2016
Error bars are SEM. Y-axis is the reported vividness of the action block relative to the vividness of the stationary block after the condition's action was performed. Negative values mean the action block was less vivid or faded more than the stationary (

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Distinct neural mechanisms underlie the success, precision, and vividness of episodic memory

open access: yeseLife, 2016
A network of brain regions have been linked with episodic memory retrieval, but limited progress has been made in identifying the contributions of distinct parts of the network.

Affluence, Vividness, and Blame

open access: yesJournal of Moral Philosophy
Abstract Most affluent people do little to aid those living in severe poverty. In this paper, we consider the extent to which such people are blameworthy for their inaction. We argue for three main claims. First, we cannot convincingly appeal to the phenomenon of non-culpable moral ignorance to argue that the affluent are not seriously blameworthy for ...

The Epistemic Role of Vividness [PDF]

open access: yes
The vividness of mental imagery is epistemically relevant. Intuitively, vivid and intense memories are epistemically better than weak and hazy memories, and using a clear and precise mental image in the service of spatial reasoning is epistemically ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

What is vividness? [PDF]

open access: yesPsychonomic Science, 1970
The vividness of verbal stimuli is highly related to the semantic differential rating of active (and, in decreasing order of magnitude, to ratings of fast, aggressive, new, hard, and beautiful). Studies manipulating vividness may thus involve demonstration of the effects of the activity dimension on verbal learning.
