The future of VLC

Visible light communication (VLC) is based on modulating inexpensive LEDs that are simultaneously used for illumination. This dual-use approach can offer energy-efficient connectivity as well as high throughput due to the huge unregulated optical spectrum.

VLC-Based Indoor Localization

The omnipresence of LEDs for illumination provides unique opportunities for indoor localization. Signals transmitted by the LEDs can be used to determine the position of a person or object within a room with high precision. The requirements of such applications are different from high speed VLC systems.
