Managing and Orchestrating Cross-Cloud VNFs with Deployable Sidecar VNF Coordinators
2024 IEEE 10th International Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSoft)This work presents a novel approach for managing and orchestrating Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) across cloud domains. We introduce deployable Sidecar VNF (S-VNF) coordinators designed for seamless integration into existing infrastructure, enabling operators to leverage infrastructure services provided by different providers.

Dynamic VNF Forwarding Graph Extension Algorithms
IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, 2020This paper proposes a set of algorithms to extend initially deployed Virtualized Network Functions Forwarding Graphs (VNF-FG or Service Function Chains - SFCs) previously requested and acquired by tenants. The latter are likely to request extension of their already acquired, deployed, and running dedicated slices to embed additional networking ...

VNF Security in Telco Environment
2020Over the years, Telecommunication service providers are moving towards Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) to greatly reduce and manage Capex and Opex costs. Moving towards virtualisation of services and coupled with software defined networking, service providers are preparing to deliver complex services in the evolving landscape of next generation ...

The fifth generation (5G) utilizes Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Network (SDN) to provide applications. Among them, there are deadline constrained applications. When the traffic generated by applications traverses Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) chains, it may not be possible to meet the deadlines when the traffic is ...

Segment Routing Optimization for VNF Chaining
ICC 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2019Segment Routing (SR) is an emerging source routing based tunneling technique, which allows source router to steer traffic by encoding segment list in the packet header. Due to its fine-grained control of routing path, SR can be leveraged to facilitate the deployment of Service Function Chains (SFCs).

Machine Learning-based Optimal VNF Deployment
2020 21st Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS), 2020Network Function Virtualization (NFV) environment can deal with dynamic changes in traffic status with appropriate deployment and scaling of Virtualized Network Function (VNF). However, determining and applying the optimal VNF deployment in consideration of the cost and Quality of Service (QoS) is a complicated and difficult task.

Challenges Towards Protecting VNF With SGX
Proceedings of the 2018 ACM International Workshop on Security in Software Defined Networks & Network Function Virtualization, 2018Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is an emerging technology to implement network functions in software, which reduces equipment costs (CAPEX) and operational cost (OPEX) through decoupling network functions from network dedicated devices and deploying them on high-volume standard servers and running as virtual instances.

NFP brokering for VNF chaining models
2017 19th International Conference on Advanced Communication Technology (ICACT), 2017NFP brokering framework is suggested to secure interoperability between heterogeneous chaining methods known so far and to address branching issues to reflect behaviour of VNFs to NFP forwarding rules at run time. Also, Functional architecture and interface between functional blocks of the framework are proposed based on NFP management information ...

A Green VNF-FG Embedding Algorithm
2018 4th IEEE Conference on Network Softwarization and Workshops (NetSoft), 2018This paper proposes an Integer Linear Program (ILP) to address the Virtualized Network Function Forwarding Graph (VNF-FG) placement and chaining problem when VNFs are shared across tenants to optimize resource usage and increase provider revenue. Since ILP approaches do not scale well with problem size, the proposed algorithm selects a limited number ...
