A Large‐Area Broadband Multimodal Dual‐Resonant Haptic Device for Bidirectional Telerobotic and Augmented Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a large‐area bidirectional human–machine interface integrating electrostatic multimodal tactile sensing with a dual‐resonant haptic actuator. The system enables linear pressure sensing that is decoupled from actuation and stable broadband vibrotactile feedback under dynamic contact conditions, supporting real‐time feedback modulation aligned

What matters to a mouse? Effects of internal and external context on male vocal response to female squeaks.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
House mice adjust their signaling behavior depending on the social context of an interaction, but which aspects of context elicit the strongest responses from these individuals is often difficult to determine.

How did vocal communication come to dominate human language? A view from the womb

open access: yesPLOS Biology
Whether human language evolved via a gestural or a vocal route remains an unresolved and contentious issue. Given the existence of two preconditions—a “language faculty” and the capacity for imitative learning both vocally and manually—there is no compelling evidence for gesture being inherently inferior to vocalization as a mode of linguistic ...

Solution‐Processed Nickel Oxide as Efficient Hole Transport Layers in Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent advances in four mainstream solution‐based techniques for synthesizing NiOx hole‐transport layers for high‐performance perovskite photovoltaic cells, and highlights the key challenges and future prospects for achieving high efficiency, long‐term stability, and low‐cost perovskite photovoltaic technologies toward ...

Calling at the highway: The spatiotemporal constraint of road noise on Pacific chorus frog communication

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2017
Loss of acoustic habitat due to anthropogenic noise is a key environmental stressor for vocal amphibian species, a taxonomic group that is experiencing global population declines.

Studying sign processes in the emergence of communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Communication depends on the production and interpretation \ud of representations, but the study of representational processes \ud underlying communication finds little discussion in \ud computational experiments. Here we present an experiment \ud on the

Chitosan‐Carbon Dot Composite Materials Form a Leaf Surface Barrier to Mitigate the Enrichment and Invasion of Nanoplastics: From Leaf Interface to Systemic Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Foliar spraying of CS‐CDs can form a film on the leaves of Brassica rapa, effectively reducing the enrichment and absorption of PS in the leaves, while increasing the biomass and nutrient content of the plants. In addition, CS‐CDs can also enrich the interfoliar microbial community and activate the plant's own defense metabolic pathways.

The Third‐Generation Magnetic Super‐Stable Mineralizer: Complete Removal and Separation of Multiple Heavy Metal Pollutants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 3rd‐generation magnetic super‐stable mineralizer M‐MgAl‐700 features a core‐shell structure, strong superparamagnetism, large surface area, and abundant oxygen defects. It achieves exceptional Cd(II) and As(V) mineralization capacities, reducing both pollutants in co‐contaminated water and soil to meet national standards.

Recruiting, teaching, and inspiring middle school male choral singers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper addresses the social stigmas behind boys singing in chorus, particularly at the middle school level. It outlines ways to change these stigmas and inspire boys to want to sing in chorus. Single-gender classes, teaching boys about their changing
