Postoperative Hypocalcemia Following Total Thyroidectomy Versus Completion Thyroidectomy

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Completion thyroidectomy performed with at least a three‐month interval demonstrates superior parathyroid preservation compared to primary total thyroidectomy, as evidenced by significantly higher postoperative parathyroid hormone levels (51.90 ± 30.26 pg/mL vs. 30.90 ± 17.10 pg/mL, p = 0.006).

Pitch Strength & Percent Vocal Creak to Assess Treatment Response in Adductor Laryngeal Dystonia

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Pitch Strength (PS) and Percent Vocal Creak (%VC) were measured before and after botulinum neurotoxin treatment in patients with adductor laryngeal dystonia (AdLD). While PS and %VC correlated with changes in disruption frequency and perceptual severity, they did not demonstrate robust group‐level treatment sensitivity.

Evaluating the Local Response of a Novel Injectable Capsule for Drug Delivery in the Trachea

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
A novel PLGA polymer capsule was developed for localized pretracheal drug delivery and evaluated for short‐term local tissue safety in a rabbit model. Implant placement was confirmed by ultrasound and was well tolerated over 14 days, with preservation of airway patency, native tracheal architecture, and biomechanical properties.

The Subhyoid Approach for Base of Tongue Tumors: Description of A Novel Surgical Technique

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The sub‐hyoid approach is a novel open surgical technique for selected deeply infiltrative base of tongue tumors, providing direct access and allowing full‐thickness resection while preserving the tongue neurovascular structures. Thyro‐hyoido‐pexy restores hyo‐laryngeal suspension without flap reconstruction, with the aim of preserving swallowing ...

Supraglottic Botulinum Toxin Injection Improves Symptoms of Laryngeal Sensory Dysfunction

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
In this retrospective cohort of 80 patients with refractory laryngeal sensory symptoms, supraglottic botulinum toxin type A significantly improved Laryngeal Hypersensitivity Questionnaire, Reflux Symptom Index, and Cough Severity Index scores at a mean of 5.2 weeks, while Voice Handicap Index‐10 scores remained unchanged.

Intraoperative Bradycardia: Evaluating Vasovagal Events in Adult Suspension Microlaryngeal Surgery

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This retrospective single‐surgeon cohort study of 190 adults undergoing suspension microlaryngoscopy found that 8.9% (17/190) developed significant intraoperative bradycardia consistent with a vasovagal response (VVR). No demographic, comorbidity, or procedural factors were significantly associated with VVR, though most affected patients required ...

Therapeutic JAK Inhibition in Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Three patients with idiopathic subglottic stenosis and rheumatoid arthritis began JAK inhibitor therapy, after which the mean surgical‐free interval between endoscopic dilations rose from 317 to 631 days and the annualized dilation rate fell from 1.24 to 0.38 per patient‐year. Figure 2 shows this as a per‐patient timeline.

Novel Injectable Supports Long‐Term Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve and Partial Peripheral Nerve Repair

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Following recurrent laryngeal nerve transection in C57BL/6 mice, intramuscular Agrin, neuregulin‐1, and acetylcholine treatment of the thyroarytenoid muscle supported functional reinnervation and preservation of neuromuscular structure at 84 days.
