Estill Voice TrainingTM - A Popular Approach to Voice Training

open access: yesListy klinicke logopedie
Estill Voice TrainingTM (EVT) is a voice training method based on the understanding of how the vocal mechanism works. This method offers an effective approach to voice development, re-education, and rehabilitation, making it valuable also in speech ...

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...

Noise-Robust Voice Conversion Using High-Quefrency Boosting via Sub-Band Cepstrum Conversion and Fusion

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
This paper presents a noise-robust voice conversion method with high-quefrency boosting via sub-band cepstrum conversion and fusion based on the bidirectional long short-term memory (BLSTM) neural networks that can convert parameters of vocal tracks of a

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

The Influence of Posture and Balance on Voice: A Review

open access: yesGazeta Médica, 2018
The role of posture in vocal performance is recognized for many years. Speech therapists and singing teachers use this knowledge to correct bad postures to improve vocal quality with good results, although most of that knowledge is empirical.

Auditory–Tactile Congruence for Synthesis of Adaptive Pain Expressions in RoboPatients

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this work, we explore auditory–tactile congruence for synthesizing adaptive vocal pain expressions in robopatients. Using a robopatient platform that integrates vocal pain sounds with palpation forces, we conducted 7680 trials across 20 participants.

Backpropagation Through Soft Body: Investigating Information Processing in Brain–Body Coupling Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study explores how information processing is distributed between brains and bodies through a codesign approach. Using the “backpropagation through soft body” framework, brain–body coupling agents are developed and analyzed across several tasks in which output is generated through the agents’ physical dynamics.
