Volar Locking Plate Implant Prominence and Flexor Tendon Rupture

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery - Series A, 2011
Flexor tendon injury is a recognized complication of volar plate fixation of distal radial fractures. A suspected contributing factor is implant prominence at the watershed line, where the flexor tendons lie closest to the plate. Two parallel series of patients who underwent volar locked plating of distal radial fractures from 2005 to 2008 and with at ...

Therapeutic Effects of Volar Anatomical Plates Versus Locking Plates for Volar Barton’s Fractures

Orthopedics, 2012
Volar Barton’s fractures are uncommon and extremely unstable. Various surgical techniques have been reported in the literature, but open reduction and internal fixation using a volar plate system is currently advocated for the treatment of volar Barton’s fractures.

Biomechanical Properties of 3-Dimensional Printed Volar Locking Distal Radius Plate: Comparison With Conventional Volar Locking Plate

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2017
This study evaluated the biomechanical properties of a new volar locking plate made by 3-dimensional printing using titanium alloy powder and 2 conventional volar locking plates under static and dynamic loading conditions that were designed to replicate those seen during fracture healing and early postoperative rehabilitation. For all plate designs, 12 ...

Comparison between Carbon-Peek volar locking plates and titanium volar locking plates in the treatment of distal radius fractures

Injury, 2017
Unstable intra articular fractures of distal radius are frequently being managed with open reduction and internal fixation. Volar locking plate based on polyetheretherketon (PEEK) polymer has developed lately as an alternative to conventional metallic devices.

Volar Locking Plate and Radial Styloid Plating

2016
A significant number of distal radius fractures can be appropriately managed with a volar locking plate alone. However, fractures with a radial column/styloid fragment can prove difficult to capture with a standard volar locking plate, as the primary or secondary fracture lines would be parallel to the distal screws of most volar plates.
