Comparison of a ceiling-mounted 3D flat panel detector vs. conventional intraoperative 2D fluoroscopy in plate osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures with volar locking plate systems

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2021
Objectives To compare intraoperative 3D fluoroscopy with a ceiling-mounted flat panel detector in plate osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures (AO/OTA 2R3C1.2) with volar locking plate systems to conventional 2D fluoroscopy for detection of ...

Estudio de diagnóstico de la vista del horizonte para la protuberancia del tornillo dorsal después de la fijación de fracturas del radio distal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Objective: The pronator quadratus (PQ) has important functions such as pronation and robust blood supply of metaphysis. However, PQ repair is difficult when using conventional approach, which is necessary to release PQ for volar plate fixation of distal ...

Hail to the thief: spectral egalitarianism in the Moroccan High Atlas Songez au voleur ! les spectres de l’égalitarisme dans le Haut‐Atlas marocain

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Volume 32, Issue S1, Page 104-120, March 2026.
This essay examines the spectres haunting ideas of egalitarianism among Tashelhiyt‐speaking communities in the Moroccan High Atlas: first, the tyrant, an obvious frontal threat to ideas of equality; and then the vastly more complex figure of the thief (amkhar).

Advanced Human Immune Cell‐Organoid Co‐Cultures for Functional Testing of Cancer Nanovaccines

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 10, 18 February 2026.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains difficult to treat. We establish an organoid–immune co‐culture using patient‐derived organoids and matched T‐cells to assess cancer vaccines. A mesothelin‐targeted nanovaccine activates antigen‐specific T‐cells, increases IFN‐γ, and targets MSLN+ organoids.

Cast immobilization versus volar locking plate fixation of AO type C distal radial fractures in patients aged 60 years and older

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, 2019
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of conservative treatment (cast immobilization) for complex intra-articular distal radius fractures (AO type C) in elderly patients and to determine whether or not the application of a volar ...

Variable Angle Locking Compression Plate as Alternative Fixation for Jones Fractures:: A Case Series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction. Jones fractures pose many challenges for the treatingsurgeon and can cause significant disability for some patients. Theaim of this study was to review the results of using a variable anglelocking compression plate as an alternative ...

Empowering Flexible Electronics with Piezoelectric Nanogenerators: Breakthroughs from Energy Harvesting to Intelligent Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 7, 3 February 2026.
This review systematically summarizes recent advances in self‐powered flexible sensing and energy storage systems based on piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs). It highlights their fundamental mechanisms, structural designs, and applications in health monitoring, e‐skin, and tactile sensing. The integration of PENGs with supercapacitors or batteries is

From Origami to Bistable and Laminate Structures: A Review for Multifunctional Applications from Structural Perspective of Shape‐Changing Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
This review explores how shape‐changing structures—origami, bistable, and laminate structures—enable multifunctionality in soft robotics and metamaterials. Starting from structural design, it examines core principles, real‐world applications, and ongoing challenges.

Failure of volar locking plate fixation of an extraarticular distal radius fracture: A case report

open access: yesPatient Safety in Surgery, 2010
Background Volar locking plates provide significant structural stability to the distal radius. Failure of a volar locked plating is a rarely reported complication in the literature. Case Presentation A 40 year-old, obese female patient who presented with
