Microbial Turn-over of Volatile Sulfur Compounds

1996
Biological production and consumption of sulfur gases include compounds such as H2S, methylsulfides (CH3SH, (CH3) 2S, (CH3S)2), methanesulfonate (CH3SO3H), sulfoxides (SO2), carbon disulfide (CS2) and carbonyl sulfide (COS). Only H2S, COS, SO2 and CH3SH are true gases under most environmental conditions, but other sulfur compounds, such as ...

Nitrification Inhibition by Nitrapyrin and Volatile Sulfur Compounds

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1985
Abstract Nitrification inhibitors can slow the rate of nitrification in soils and reduce nitrogen losses under some soil‐climatic conditions. Carbon disulfide (CS 2 ) and compounds which produce CS 2 have slowed nitrification in ...

Ammonia volatilization from compound nitrogen-sulfur fertilizers

1993
Co-granulated urea and ammonium sulfate (AS) offer the potential for supplying both nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) in a form readily available for plant uptake. Possible effects of a partial substitution of urea by AS on urea hydrolysis and ammonia (NH3) volatilization were examined in laboratory experiments.

Determination of volatile sulfur compounds in canola oil

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1985
AbstractA simple and sensitive method for the quantitative determination of volatile isothiocyanates in canola oil has been developed. The method is based on the specific absorbance of isothiocyanates in the infrared region. The results obtained were confirmed by gas liquid chromatography using a flame photometric detector.

Inhibition of nitrification in soils by volatile sulfur compounds

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1974
Abstract Carbon disulfide, dimethyl disulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, and hydrogen sulfide retard nitrification of ammonium in soils incubated in closed systems. The inhibitory effects of these volatile sulfur compounds on nitrification decrease in the order listed.

[Influence of exogenous sulfur-containing compounds on the exchange fluxes of volatile organic sulfur compounds].

Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2013
The influences of cysteine, sodium sulfide (Na2S) and sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) on the soil-air exchange fluxes of volatile organic sulfur compounds (VOSCs), including carbonyl sulfide (COS), dimethyl sulfide (DMS), carbon disulfide (CS2) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), were studied employing static chamber enclosure followed by laboratory determination ...
