Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Estimating Potential Ground and Surface Water Pollution from Land Application of Poultry Litter - II [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
In Arkansas, approximately 1 Tg of poultry (Gallus gallus domesticus) manure and litter is produced annually. These waste products are commonly applied to pastures as a soil amendment or fertilizer, but excessive application rates and poor management ...

Nitrogen phytoremediation by water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The phytoremediation potential of water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms, was examined in two independent studies under nitrogen (N) rates of 0, 40, 80, 100, 150, 200, and 300 ppm.

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Modeling ammonia emissions from dairy production systems in the United States [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Dairy production systems are hot spots of ammonia (NH3) emission. However, there remains large uncertainty in quantifying and mitigating NH3 emissions from dairy farms due to the lack of both long-term field measurements and reliable methods for ...

Cryptocurrency volatility markets [PDF]

open access: yesDigital Finance, 2020
AbstractBy computing a volatility index (CVX) from cryptocurrency option prices, we analyze this market’s expectation of future volatility. Our method addresses the challenging liquidity environment of this young asset class and allows us to extract stable market implied volatilities.

Local volatility under rough volatility

open access: yesMathematical Finance, 2023
AbstractSeveral asymptotic results for the implied volatility generated by a rough volatility model have been obtained in recent years (notably in the small‐maturity regime), providing a better understanding of the shapes of the volatility surface induced by rough volatility models, supporting their calibration power to SP500 option data.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
