The global volcano monitoring infrastructure database (GVMID)

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Monitoring volcanoes is of the most importance in volcano risk mitigation to safeguard lives and economies. Thanks to recent technological advances, both on-ground and in space, our understanding of volcanic processes has improved significantly.

Monitoring temporal opacity fluctuations of large structures with muon tomography : a calibration experiment using a water tower tank [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Usage of secondary cosmic muons to image the geological structures density distribution significantly developed during the past ten years. Recent applications demonstrate the method interest to monitor magma ascent and volcanic gas movements inside ...

Advances in seismic monitoring at Deception Island volcano (Antarctica) since the International Polar Year

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2014
Deception Island is an active volcano located in the south Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It constitutes a natural laboratory to test geophysical instruments in extreme conditions, since they have to endure not only the Antarctic climate but also the ...

Volcano Infrasound and the International Monitoring System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Volcanoes generate a wide variety of low-frequency (~0.01–20 Hz) acoustic signals, and infrasound technology is part of an expanding suite of geophysical tools available to characterize, understand, and monitor volcanic processes. We review recent advances in the field of volcano acoustics with an emphasis on scientific and potential civil application ...

Analysis of the Alaska Volcano Observatory's Response Time to Volcanic Explosions-1989 to 2016

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
A major goal of volcano monitoring is the rapid identification of volcanic explosions and subsequent warning of associated hazards. Between 1988 and 2016 the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) responded to at least 54 separate volcanic eruptions.

Foundations for Forecasting: Defining Baseline Seismicity at Fuego Volcano, Guatemala

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
Accurate volcanic eruption forecasting is especially challenging at open vent volcanoes with persistent low levels of activity and relatively sparse permanent monitoring networks.

Monitoring of Merapi Volcano Deformation Using Interferometry Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) Technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Merapi volcano is the most active volcano in Indonesia until now, because of eruption occur every two or five years. To minimize the impact of volcanic eruptions need to monitor the volcanic activity, one effort in monitoring is to monitor the ...

The critical role of DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) in stemness character of leukemia cells and leukemia initiation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Stemness properties, including quiescence, self‐renewal, and chemoresistance, are closely associated with leukemia relapse. Here, we demonstrate that DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) is induced in the hypoxic bone marrow niche and is essential for maintaining the stemness of AML1‐ETO9a leukemia cells.

In situ measurements of tropospheric volcanic plumes in Ecuador and Colombia during TC^4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A NASA DC-8 research aircraft penetrated tropospheric gas and aerosol plumes sourced from active volcanoes in Ecuador and Colombia during the Tropical Composition, Cloud and Climate Coupling (TC^4) mission in July–August 2007. The likely source volcanoes
