Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

A sub-μs accuracy GPS alternative using electrical transmission grids as precision timing networks

open access: yesScientific Reports
It is widely recognised that over-reliance on GNSS (e.g GPS) for time synchronisation represents an acute threat to modern society, and a diversity of alternatives are required to mitigate the threat of an outage.

Soil microbial community composition and nitrogen enrichment responses to the operation of electric power substation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
The surge in global energy demand mandates a significant expansion of electric power substations. Nevertheless, the ecological consequences of electric power substation operation, particularly concerning the electromagnetic field, on soil microbial ...

The tarantula toxin GxTx detains K+ channel gating charges in their resting conformation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Allosteric ligands modulate protein activity by altering the energy landscape of conformational space in ligand-protein complexes. Here we investigate how ligand binding to a K+ channel's voltage sensor allosterically modulates opening of its K ...

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Diagnostics of Partial Discharge Measurements Utilizing Multi-Sensor Temporal Pulse Sequence Analysis

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper presents an improved temporal pulse sequence analysis (PSA) method for diagnosing partial discharge (PD) phenomena. The proposed method enables simultaneous high-resolution PD recognition across electrical sensors and ultra-high frequency ...

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

MOSFET analog memory circuit achieves long duration signal storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Memory circuit maintains the signal voltage at the output of an analog signal amplifier when the input signal is interrupted or removed. The circuit uses MOSFET /Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor/ devices as voltage-controlled switches ...

Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...
