A Spatio-Temporal Microsimulation Framework for Charging Impact Analysis of Electric Vehicles in Residential Areas: Sensitivity Analysis and Benefits of Model Complexity

open access: yesEnergies
The increasing share of electric vehicles (EVs) offers many advantages, including a reduced CO2 footprint over the vehicles’ lifetime and improved resource efficiency through the recycling of high-voltage batteries. At the same time, the growing EV share

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Selection of Rational Scheme for Inspection of Overhead Power Transmission Lines with 35 kV Voltage and Higher

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2012
The paper considers four variants of inspection of overhead power transmission lines with 35 kV voltage and higher. Technical and economic indices for every inspection variant have been determined in the paper. The most rational inspection variant of the

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

State of Charge Estimation for Lithium Battery in Shipboard DC Power Grid Based on Differential Evolutionary Algorithm

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
More and more attention has been paid to ships with a DC power grid. State-of-charge (SOC) estimation is a pivotal and challenging assignment for lithium-ion batteries in such ships. However, the precision of SOC estimation is strongly connected with the
