Performance assessment of a potential underground thermal storage facility: Case study of the closed mine Prosper‐Haniel in the Ruhr coal mining area in Germany

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the feasibility of an underground closed‐loop thermal storage facility at a post‐mining site, intended for seasonal heat energy storage. Its principal design shows water flow directions in winter and summer (1, 2), heat pumps (3), an upper water reservoir (4), and connecting pipes (5).

Voltage Compensation-Type Current Limiter Based on Hybrid Distribution Transformer for Power Quality Enhancement

open access: yesEAI Endorsed Transactions on Energy Web
This paper presents a voltage compensation-type current limiter based on a hybrid distribution transformer (HDT) structure, which integrates a three-winding transformer, AC/DC converter, DC/AC converter, current-limiting unit, bypass switches, and a ...

Proposal of voltage transient sag compensator with controlled gradational voltage

open access: yesElectrical Engineering in Japan, 2005
This paper presents a new concept for a voltage transient sag compensator and the experimental result of its 400-V-class compensator. This compensator is composed of the series connection of some inverter units with gradational output voltages. Because each output voltage is different by 2n times, an approximate sinusoidal voltage is generated by ...

Responsive demand to mitigate slow recovery voltage sags

open access: yes, 2011
It is expected that in the future, customers will play a much more active role in modern power distribution systems. Instead of being passive agents, customers will be encouraged to participate in many other functions, such as frequency and voltage ...

Carbon‐Negative Upcycling of Sewage Sludge into Superiorly Stable Gel Via Liquid‐Phase Utilization Strategy for Water‐Remediation

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work developed a low‐temperature sludge hydrothermal coupled with gel crosslinking strategy which could upgrade the waste liquid generated from sewage sludge hydrothermal treatment into the hydrothermal‐liquid‐gel. The inventive hydrothermal‐liquid‐gel exhibited the enhanced pollutant removal capability, high synthetic stability, and superior ...

Mindfulness meditation increases interictal epileptiform discharges in meditation‐naïve surgical epilepsy patients

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Meditation has widely recognized psychological and neuromodulatory benefits, yet its effects on epileptiform activity remain unclear. This study examined whether novice meditation modulates interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) in patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy using intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG).

Genetic landscape of patients with atypical absence status epilepticus: A systematic review

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Atypical absence status epilepticus (AASE) is a rare subtype of nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE), characterized by clouding of consciousness and continuous or fluctuating epileptiform activity, generally at a frequency below 3 Hz. Only sparse literature exists on the genetic conditions associated with it.

‘You Can Be Simultaneously Powerful and Marginalised at the Same Time in Different Ways’. An Intersectional Examination of Barriers and Facilitators of Help‐Seeking for Eating Disorders by People From Under‐Served Groups

open access: yesEuropean Eating Disorders Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore barriers and facilitators to help‐seeking by people from under‐served groups in eating disorders (EDs). Methods Seventeen participants with lived experience of an ED, identifying as members of groups traditionally under‐served in ED research (ethnic minority, sexual or gender minority, or men), took part in semi‐structured

Modeling and Simulation of Dynamic Voltage Restorer for Mitigation of Voltage Sags

open access: yes, 2014
Voltage sags are the most common power quality disturbance in the distribution system. It occurs due to the fault in the electrical network or by the starting of a large induction motor and this can be solved by using the custom power devices such as ...
