Distributed generation support for voltage regulation: An adaptive approach

Electric Power Systems Research, 2014
Distributed generation is expected to introduce additional issues in the operation of distribution networks. Among these, voltage variation is of particular concern and needs to be addressed concisely. Conventionally, voltage regulators are placed in transmission level, where they use reactive power control to alter voltage levels.

Decision Support for Maintenance Management of High Voltage Components

2006 IEEE 8th International Conference on Properties and applications of Dielectric Materials, 2006
Transmission and distribution components in the power network are capital intensive assets, which force the owners of these assets to utilise them in the most efficient way. Efficient utilisation demands a thorough analysis of the relation between the assets performance and the stakeholders' expectations.

Use of Smart Inverters for Provision of Voltage Support to Medium and High Voltage Networks

2020 2nd Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM), 2020
The provision of voltage support to the Transmission Network (TN) using Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) requires new control alternatives that increase the interaction between the Distribution Network (DN) and the TN, without compromising power quality of low voltage (LV) systems. This paper presents a voltage control scheme that manages the active

Dynamic grid support in low voltage grids — fault ride-through and reactive power/voltage support during grid disturbances

2014 Power Systems Computation Conference, 2014
Faults in medium and high voltage grids lead to voltage sags in the low voltage level. Due to the voltage dip, distributed generators disconnect from the low voltage grid. Depending on the amount of disconnected generation, system stability could be compromised.

Distributed μ-STATCOM for voltage support and harmonic mitigation on low voltage networks

2017 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2017
Proliferation of distributed energy resources (DERs) on the low voltage network comes with a myriad of power quality problems such as voltage fluctuations and poor harmonic performance. Distributed mitigation solutions are being proposed for the low voltage network which are similar to state-of-the-art solutions in medium voltage networks.

Ability of a Voltage-Graded Surface to Support a High Voltage in Vacuum and in a Pressurized Gas

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1963
A bushing with a voltage-graded surface was constructed from aluminum and Pyrex glass rings. The bushing, 30 cm long, supported approximates 10/sup 6/ v at p = 10/sup -4/ mm Hg and approximates 8 x 10/sup 5/ v at p = 10/sup -7/ mm Hg of SF/sub 6/. The application of voltage grading to pressurized gases is considered; a 25-cm stack of aluminum-glass ...

Support Vector Machine for Classification of Voltage Disturbances

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2007
The support vector machine (SVM) is a powerful method for statistical classification of data used in a number of different applications. However, the usefulness of the method in a commercial available system is very much dependent on whether the SVM classifier can be pretrained from a factory since it is not realistic that the SVM classifier must be ...

Wind turbines voltage support in weak grids

2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013
This paper investigates how Full-Scale Converter (FSC) wind turbines can contribute to voltage support in weak grids. A novel voltage support strategy is proposed, which optimizes the voltage support during the fault. This strategy is compared to the voltage support required by two grid codes, the Danish and the German E.ON ones.

Analysis of frequency inverter supportability to voltage sags

2018 Simposio Brasileiro de Sistemas Eletricos (SBSE), 2018
This work presents a study about the tolerance of a frequency inverter when submitted to voltage sags, which are events directly related to the electric power quality. The frequency inverters are devices widely used in the industry applications in variable speed drives. According to the magnitude and duration of the voltage sag, the frequency inverters

Evaluation of the Voltage Support Strategies for the Low Voltage Grid Connected PV

2010
Admissible range of grid voltage is one of the strictest constraints for the penetration of distributed photovoltaic (PV) generators especially connection to low voltage (LV) public networks. Voltage limits are usually fulfilled either by network reinforcements or limiting of power injections from PVs. In order to increase PV penetration level further,
