Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Effect of shield placement for transient voltage mitigation due to switching surges in a 33/11 kV transformer windings.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
This study presents an investigation on the effect of shield placement for mitigation of transient voltage in a 33/11 kV, 30 MVA transformer due to Standard Switching Impulse (SSI) and Oscillating Switching Impulse (OSI) surges.

On fully superconducting rectifiers and fluxpumps. A review. Part 2: Commutation modes, characteristics and switches [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
This paper forms the second part of the review. Full and half wave superconducting transformer rectifiers are analysed. Modes of operation and loss mechanisms are detailed and a comparison between the behaviour of dynamos and rectifiers is presented ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Analysis of the Application of Current Transfomer in Low-voltage Flexible DC Microgrid

open access: yes南方能源建设, 2019
[Introduction] Low voltage flexible DC microgrid is a bridge between DC devices such as energy storage, electric car and mid-voltage DC power grid. As the DC technology develops and many more DC devices connecting to the grid, it′s feasible and necessary

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Investigation of a Resonant dc–dc Converter for Light Rail Transportation Applications

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
A high efficiency dc–dc converter is studied for light rail transportation applications on DC microgrid systems. The adopted structure includes two series-connected resonant circuits with single isolated transformer from input 750 V to output 48 V.

Simplified dc to dc converter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
A dc to dc converter which can start with a shorted output and which regulates output voltage and current is described. Voltage controlled switches directed current through the primary of a transformer the secondary of which includes virtual reactance ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
