Loading Dose of Ceftazidime Needs to Be Increased in Critically Ill Patients: A Retrospective Study to Evaluate Recommended Loading Dose with Pharmacokinetic Modelling

open access: yesAntibiotics
To rapidly achieve ceftazidime target concentrations, a 2 g loading dose (LD) is recommended before continuous infusion, but its adequacy in critically ill patients, given their unique pharmacokinetics, needs investigation.

Revisiting the application of Immobilized Artificial Membrane (IAM) chromatography to estimate in vivo distribution properties of drug discovery compounds based on the model of marketed drugs

open access: yesADMET and DMPK, 2020
Immobilized Artificial Membrane (IAM) chromatography columns have been used to model the in vivo distribution of drug discovery compounds. Regis Technologies Inc., the manufacturer, had to replace the silica support and consequently introduced a new IAM ...

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

A Review of Therapeutic Agents Given by Convection-Enhanced Delivery for Adult Glioblastoma

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Glioblastoma remains a devastating disease with a bleak prognosis despite continued research and numerous clinical trials. Convection-enhanced delivery offers researchers and clinicians a platform to bypass the blood–brain barrier and administer drugs ...

Volume and surface distribution of radiation defect in natural diamonds

open access: yesЗаписки Горного института, 2018
In the following article, we have studied the variations of natural irradiation of diamond crystals. The natural diamonds in some cases show homogeneous green colour, caused by irradiation of the entire crystals volume. Radiation damage effects, produced

Distribution of the Volume of Weighted Gaussian Simplex [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Let $X_0, \ldots, X_l$ be independent standard Gaussian vectors in $\mathbb{R}^d$ such that $l \leqslant d$. We derive an explicit formula for the distribution of the volume of weighted Gaussian simplex without the origin -- $l$-dimensional simplex $\mathrm{conv}(\sigma_0X_0, \ldots, \sigma_lX_l)$ ($\sigma_0, \ldots, \sigma_l > 0$).

Free Volume Power Law for Transport Properties of Hard Sphere Fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This paper presents a study on the relationship between transport properties and geometric free volume for hard sphere (HS) system in dense fluid region. Firstly, a generic free volume distribution function is proposed based on recent simulation results for the HS geometric free volume by Maiti et al.

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...
