Effect of pore structure on capillary condensation in a porous medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Kelvin equation relates the equilibrium vapor pressure of a fluid to the curvature of the fluid-vapor interface and predicts that vapor condensation will occur in pores or irregularities that are sufficiently small.

Numerical analysis of bubble coalescence characteristics on wetting surface

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectiveThis study aims to advance the development of composite drag reduction technology involving super-hydrophobic surfaces and bubbles by investigating the coalescence characteristics of bubbles on wetting surfaces and revealing the effects of ...

Impact of single-particle compressibility on the fluid-solid phase transition for ionic microgel suspensions

open access: yes, 2014
We study ionic microgel suspensions composed of swollen particles for various single-particle stiffnesses. We measure the osmotic pressure $\pi$ of these suspensions and show that it is dominated by the contribution of free ions in solution.

Shear-induced sedimentation in yield stress fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Stability of coarse particles against gravity is an important issue in dense suspensions (fresh concrete, foodstuff, etc.). On the one hand, it is known that they are stable at rest when the interstitial paste has a high enough yield stress; on the other

Flow Boiling of Liquid n-Heptane in Microtube with Various Fuel Flow Rate: Experimental and Numerical Study

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
The evaporation of liquid hydrocarbon n-heptane is discussed in detail with experimentation and numerical techniques. A maximum wall temperature of 1050 K was reported during an experimental process with a two-phase flow that was stable and had a ...

Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of Integrative Neuromuscular Training for Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Pilot Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often exhibit early deficits in muscle and movement competence, which can compromise long‐term health. Integrative neuromuscular training (INT), a multifaceted approach combining fundamental movement activities with strength exercises, may help address these deficits during ...

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

The Simulation Study of Fluid Physical Properties on Drop Formation of Drop-on-demand Inkjet Printing

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
Inkjet printing is a method for directly patterning and fabricating patterns without the need for masks. However, the physical phenomenon in inkjet printing process is very complicated with the coupling of piezoelectricity, elasticity, and free surface ...

A volume of fluid method for simulating fluid/fluid interfaces in contact with solid boundaries

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we present a novel approach to model the fluid/solid interaction forces in a direct solver of the Navier-Stokes equations based on the volume of fluid interface tracking method.

Calculation of the expansion rate of the three-volume measure in high-energy heavy-ion collisions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions the local three-volume measure is expanding in the longitudinal and transverse directions. This is similar to the Hubble-expansion of the universe, except that the former is not locally isotropic.
