Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Using Computational Modelling to Study Extensional Rheometry Tests for Inelastic Fluids

open access: yesFluids, 2021
The present work focuses on the extensional rheometry test, performed with the Sentmanat extensional rheometer (SER) device, and its main objectives are: (i) to establish the modelling requirements, such as the geometry of the computational domain ...

Hydrodynamic interactions suppress deformation of suspension drops in Poiseuille flow

open access: yes, 2010
Evolution of a suspension drop entrained by Poiseuille flow is studied numerically at a low Reynolds number. A suspension drop is modelled by a cloud of many non-touching particles, initially randomly distributed inside a spherical volume of a viscous ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

SIMPLIFIED VOLUME OF FLUID METHOD (SVOF) FOR TWO-PHASE FLOWS

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2008
The PLIC approach has been usually used in recent implementations of the VOF method i.e. the interphasal surface is approximated by a plane with an arbitrary orientation with respect to the computational cell.

Numerical Analysis and Validation of Horizontal and Vertical Displacements of a Floating Body for Different Wave Periods

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
This study concentrates on numerically evaluating the behavior of a floating body with a box format. Although research on floating objects has been conducted, the numerical modeling of Wave Energy Converter (WEC) devices, considering the effects of ...

Assessment of Hydrodynamic Loads on an Offshore Monopile Structure Considering Hydroelasticity Effects

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Regular and irregular waves were numerically generated in a wave canal to investigate hydrodynamic loads acting on a wind turbine monopile and to predict its structural response.
