The Gas‐Liquid Separation Characteristics Inside a Drainage Self‐Priming Pump Under Different Discharge Valve Openings

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 1241-1257, March 2026.
To investigate the influence of discharge valve opening on the self‐priming characteristics of a self‐priming pump, numerical calculations are conducted for four different discharge valve openings based on a circulation piping system. The hydraulic performance and the internal flow characteristics during self‐priming process are obtained.

Analysis of Turbulent Modeling for Free‐Surface Flows Using a Hybrid RANS‐LES Model and Particle‐Based Moving Particle Semi‐Implicit Method

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 98, Issue 3, Page 321-347, March 2026.
A hybrid RANS‐LES turbulence model adapted for the Moving Particle Semi‐implicit method is employed to investigate a turbulent free surface flow. A method based on the cell‐linked list is proposed to speed up the nearest wall search for the turbulence model.

CFD Simulation of the Interaction Between a Macrobubble and a Dilute Dispersion of Oil Droplets in Quiescent Water

open access: yesClean Technologies
Wastewater generation is a growing concern in the preliminary treatment of heavy crude oil and tar sand. The separation of fine oil droplets from water by flotation is a critical process in the production of bitumen from tar sand. The flow structure from

3D numerical analysis of a dam - break using VOF method and LES turbulence model

open access: yesIngeniería del Agua, 2018
In this paper, three-dimensional numerical analysis of dam-break flow pattern in a laboratory-scale is reported. The simulation was performed using the open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver based on finite volume method (FVM) – OpenFOAM ...

Modeling the Drying Process of CO2‐Water in Porous Media With a Novel Volume‐of‐Fluid Lattice Boltzmann Model

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Lattice Boltzmann (LB) modeling has been extensively applied to porous media processes, including evaporation. Former pore‐scale LB models for evaporation rely on oversimplified assumptions, such as matched viscosities. However, in subsurface CO2 ${\text{CO}}_{2}$–brine systems, the viscosity ratio can exceed 100 under relevant temperature ...

Assessment of Vehicle Stability Processes Under Unsteady Flow Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The vehicle stability criteria are based on experimental and theoretical studies that do not account for the unsteady nature of floods. The rapid variation of depths and velocities in floods causes an additional hydrodynamic force in the direction of the flow, destabilising a vehicle that would otherwise be safe in steady flow conditions. This

Experiment–simulation synergy on multiscale breakup dynamics in wire arc spray atomization

open access: yesAdvanced Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Sciences
This study investigates Wire Arc Spraying Atomization (WASA) of Ag925 powders through experiments and computational fluid dynamics simulations. Two frameworks were evaluated: a conventional Discrete Phase Model (DPM) and a hybrid Volume-of-Fluid–Discrete

Hydraulic Modelling and Pedestrian Hazard Assessment on Underground Access Stairs: The Paral·lel Metro Station Case Study in Barcelona

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Given the increasing flooding incidents in metro stations globally, underground space infrastructures must guarantee users' safety. This manuscript characterises the hydraulic behaviour of a flood‐prone access stairs of the Paral·lel Metro station in Barcelona.

Application of CLEAR-VOF method to wave and flow simulations

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2012
A two-dimensional numerical model based on the Navier-Stokes equations and computational Lagrangian-Eulerian advection remap-volume of fluid (CLEAR-VOF) method was developed to simulate wave and flow problems. The Navier-Stokes equations were discretized
