Optimization of a High Pressure Swirl Injector by Using Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) Method
ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, Volume 3, 2010In this paper, the effects of various geometric parameters of a high pressure swirl Gasoline Direct Injector (GDI) on the injection flow quality are investigated. The two-dimensional axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) method were employed for simulation of the formation mechanism of the liquid film inside the ...

The Direct Numerical Simulation of the Rising Gas Bubble With the Volume of Fluid (VOF) Method
Volume 6: Fluids and Thermal Systems; Advances for Process Industries, Parts A and B, 2011A gas-liquid two phase flow is complicated and it has not been understood well thus far, in spite of extensive investigation. Numerical simulation is a potential approach to understand this phenomenon. Although a number of studies have been conducted to understand the behavior of bubbles on the basis of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), it is ...

Non-dissipative cloud transport in Eulerian grid models by the volume-of-fluid (VOF) method
Atmospheric Environment, 2005Abstract The formation of clouds is coupled to the vapour saturation condition. Cloud modelling is therefore dramatically disturbed by dilution processes, which are induced by recurrent interpolations on the fixed (Eulerian) grid. The numerical diffusion gives rise to degeneration and premature disappearance of the modelled clouds.

Input data to run the wetting case studies. The benchmark suite contains four case studies. The first study reports the accuracy of the interface advection near walls. The second case study is the spreading of droplets on a flat and a spherical surface, respectively. Furthermore, a 2D capillary rise benchmark is also included.

A computational method combining the multi-fluid and the Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) approaches is presented to simulate industrial multiphase flows in complex geometry. This method is particularly applicable for flows where well-defined interfaces between different phases/fluids co-exist with small-scale multiphase structures.

A volume of fluid (VOF) numerical study is presented in which new pi number-based criteria are discussed that identify and separate three different regimes for a droplet-on-demand (DOD) print-head system. A trailing filament coalesces into the main droplet while the filament breaks into one or multiple satellite droplet(s).

In aero engines, the rotating shafts are supported by a set of bearings, which are enclosed in bearing chambers. Cooling and lubrication oil escapes from the bearings and these chambers are designed to capture and recycle it. A good understanding of the oil behaviour inside bearing chambers is therefore desirable in order to limit the oil volume ...
