Importance of blood volume cultured in the detection of bacteremia

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 1989
The influence of the volume of blood cultured on the rate of detection of bacteremia was evaluated in a routine 12-tube blood culture system using 1693 samples from 1502 patients. Blood samples were drawn simultaneously into two transport tubes. The blood volume cultured was the only varying parameter.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD VOLUME CULTURED ON DETECTION OF BACTERAEMIA

Acta Pathologica Microbiologica Scandinavica Section B Microbiology, 1981
The effect of culturing 2 and 5 ml of blood in 18 ml of supplemented peptone broth 1 (SPB I) and 45 ml of supplemented broth II (SPB II) respectively, was compared. A total of 204 isolates were recovered from 78 patients. There were 136 isolates recovered from both the 45 and the 18 ml tubes.

Therapeutic hip injections: Is the injection volume important?

Clinical Radiology, 2012
To assess whether an increased volume of local anaesthetic injection given with intra-articular steroids improves symptom relief in osteoarthritis of the hip.One hundred and ten patients with hip osteoarthritis were randomized into two groups (A and B).

Importance-Aware Composition for Illustrative Volume Rendering

2010 23rd SIBGRAPI Conference on Graphics, Patterns and Images, 2010
Non-photorealistic volume rendering, often referred as volume illustration, augments typical visualization methods to selectively emphasize or de-emphasize structures within a volumetric dataset. Illustrative visualization techniques may affect not only the rendering style of specific portions of the dataset but also their visibility, ensuring that ...

The Importance of Correct Norms in Blood Volume Measurement

The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 2007
Accurate individual norms are required for blood volume measurement to be useful in a clinical setting. The primary physiological determinant of normal blood volume is body composition. Norms have been developed based on weight and body surface area, but these have systematic errors arising from variations in body composition or body size.

Efficacy of neck dissection: Are surgical volumes important?

The Laryngoscope, 2009
Abstract Objectives/Hyphothesis: Surgical volumes have been shown in many fields to reflect expertise and to be associated with improved clinical outcomes. We sought to test similar hypotheses that neck dissection is a volume‐sensitive procedure wherein the number of lymph nodes harvested and ...

Background, importance and production volumes

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1979
AbstractThe importance of the fatty acid industry today is reflected by the estimated 1978 production in the U.S. of 956 M lbs., exclusive of tall oil fatty acids. The 1978 U.S. production of various fatty acids as reported monthly and annually by the FAPC of SDA, is broken down into 9 saturated categories, and 5 unsaturated categories, as follows: (1)

Importance-aware lighting design in volume visualization

2014 13th International Conference on Control Automation Robotics & Vision (ICARCV), 2014
Lighting design plays critical roles in depicting structural details in volume rendering. Insufficient and excessive illumination can both affect effectiveness of presenting structural details in visualization. This paper introduces topological importance into the lighting design and proposes the importance-aware lighting. In the proposed approach, the

Unbiased Emission and Scattering Importance Sampling For Heterogeneous Volumes

ACM SIGGRAPH 2021 Talks, 2021
We present two new distance-sampling methods for production volume path tracing. We extend the null-collision integral formulation to efficiently gather heterogeneous volumetric emission, achieving higher-quality results. Additionally, we propose a tabulation-based approach to importance sample volumetric in-scattering through a spatial guiding data ...

Estimation of bole volume by importance sampling

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1986
A sampling methodology to provide an unbiased estimate of bole volume is introduced, with specific regard to its incorporation as an alternative to detailed dendrometry in a 3P sampling framework. In a demonstration of the technique to estimate merchantable volume in a 91-tree population, the average relative sampling error was 7.4%.
