The importance of human brown adipose tissue volume

Nature Reviews Endocrinology, 2021
A new study investigates brown adipose tissue (BAT) volume in young, metabolically healthy adults. The focus is on the associations between BAT volume and BMI, waist circumference, whole-body adipose tissue mass, visceral adipose tissue mass and cold-induced BAT activity. Of note, the reported associations differed in men and women.

The importance of intracellular volume in the control of vascular volume

Medical Hypotheses, 1977
The effect of change in extracellular (interstitial) volume on vascular volume (VV) is mediated through interstitial pressure. Since the effect of swollen or shrunken cells on interstitial pressure should be identical to that of changes in interstitial volume on interstitial pressure, it would be appropriate to consider that intracellular volume (ICV ...

Importance-driven volume rendering

IEEE Visualization 2004, 2005
This paper introduces importance-driven volume rendering as a novel technique for automatic focus and context display of volumetric data. Our technique is a generalization of cut-away views, which - depending on the viewpoint - remove or suppress less important parts of a scene to reveal more important underlying information.

The importance of volume in regulating gastric emptying

Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 1991
There is now substantive evidence that the provision of exogenous carbohydrate at high rates (1-2 g. min-1) can enhance performance during prolonged exercise. This finding has revived research into the factors determining the rate of exogenous carbohydrate delivery during exercise.

The importance of volume exclusion in modelling cellular migration

Journal of Mathematical Biology, 2014
The modelling of collective migration has traditionally been undertaken in a continuous framework, with little reference to the individual-level mechanisms that give rise to such a concerted movement. One factor whose importance is now coming to light is that the individuals themselves occupy space in the domain, thus obstructing others from moving ...
