Volumetric Error Control in Layered Manufacturing

Volume 4: 19th Design for Manufacturing and the Life Cycle Conference; 8th International Conference on Micro- and Nanosystems, 2014
This paper presents a novel method for adaptive slicing based on volumetric error considerations for Layered Manufacturing (LM). In the general LM process uses constant layer thickness throughout the part height which leads to poor surface finish at inclined surfaces.

Sensitivity of volumetric brain analysis to systematic and random errors

2010 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS), 2010
Brain structures are subjected to changes caused by genetic, environmental factors or disease and gender, age related reasons. Different methods have been developed to capture these changes, but their agreement over the same data may significantly vary. These variations are attributed to the methodological differences of the employed methods.

Volumetric error compensation for multi-axis machines

[Proceedings] 1992 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2003
A general error prediction and compensation scheme which implicitly includes the non-rigid body condition is developed for an arbitrary multi-axis machine. The accuracy and precision of tasks performed by multi-axis machines are profoundly affected by their volumetric accuracy. The volumetric accuracy of a machine depends on numerous factors, including

Volumetric efficiency and experimental errors of rotary compressors

International Journal of Refrigeration, 1980
Resume Theoretical and experimental investigations of the factors which affect the volumetric efficiency of a rolling piston compressor have been made. The results show that a trend in the theoretical volumetric efficiency agrees fairly well with the experimental one, and that gas leakage through clearances, as well as the temperature rise of the ...

Roundness Error Prediction with a Volumetric Error Model Including Spindle Error Motions of a Machine Tool

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2003
This paper proposes a modified volumetric error model that includes spindle error motions as well as geometric errors. The model is constructed using rigid-body kinematics and homogeneous transformation matrices and an additional error matrix describing spindle error motions is included.

A new technique for volumetric error assessment of CNC machine tools incorporating ball bar measurement and 3D volumetric error model

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1997
This paper presents a useful technique for assessing the volumetric errors in multiaxis machine tools using a kinematic double ball bar. This system has been developed based on a volumetric error model which describes the three-dimensional errors of machine tools.

Analyzing sampled terrain volumetrically with regard to error and geologic variation

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
Most terrain models are created based on a sampling of real-world terrain, and are represented using linearly-interpolated surfaces such as triangulated irregular networks or digital elevation models. The existing methods for the creation of such models and representations of real-world terrain lack a crucial analytical consideration of factors such as

Analysis of systematic and random error in MR volumetric flow measurements

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 1993
AbstractThe spatial aspects of error in 2D MR cine phase‐velocity mapping are considered in order to define acquisition strategies which will minimize error in measuring volumetric flow. Error was separated into two categories: systematic and random. Potential sources of systematic error examined were intravoxel phase dispersion (IVPD), partial volume ...

Volumetric compensation of accuracy errors in a multi-robot surgical platform

2015 37th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2015
A multi-robot platform, made of a hybrid parallel kinematic machine and 2 KUKA LWR arms, is dedicated to open skull neuro-surgical tasks. Sub-millimeter accuracy is clearly required for both the absolute tool tracking and for good performances in motion compensation when the head is set free to move.

A comprehensive error analysis of horizontal machining center based on volumetric error model

2011 International Conference on Consumer Electronics, Communications and Networks (CECNet), 2011
The machine tool accuracy is comprehensively affected by geometric, thermal, and cutting force-induced errors. A key step in accuracy design and error compensation is error origins analysis. The object of this study is a MCH63 Precision Horizontal Machining Center.
