Effects of Volute Design and Number of Impeller Blades on Lateral Impeller Forces and Hydraulic Performance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2003
A comparison is made between the characteristics of the measured lateral impeller forces and the hydraulic performances of a four- and a five-vane impeller, each operating in a spiral volute, a concentric volute, and a double volute. The pump's rotor was

Effect of Splitter Blades on Performances of a Very Low Specific Speed Pump

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
The usage of splitter blades to enhance the performances of low specific speed pumps is common practice. Based on experimental and numerical studies, the influence of the addition of one and two splitter blades is investigated on a very low specific ...

A Prediction Method of Wear for Volute Casing of a Centrifugal Slurry Pump

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
Volute wall wear situations directly affect a long time safe operation for the centrifugal slurry pump unit and the whole system. In the present study, internal flow field is numerically investigated in a solid-liquid centrifugal pump, and the volute ...

Vibroacoustic Optimization Study for the Volute Casing of a Centrifugal Fan

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
A numerical optimization is presented to reduce the vibrational noise of a centrifugal fan volute. Minimal vibrational radiated sound power was considered as the aim of the optimization.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Performance of a centrifugal pump running in inverse mode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper presents the functional characterization of a centrifugal pump used as a turbine. It shows the characteristics of the machine involved at several rotational speeds, comparing the respective flows and heads.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Influence of Cross-Sectional Flow Area of Annular Volute Casing on Transient Characteristics of Ceramic Centrifugal Pump

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2019
The annular volute is typically used in a slurry pump to reduce the collisions between solid particles and the volute tongue and to achieve a better resistance to blocking.

Impeller-Induced Rotor-Dynamic Forces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The flow through and around the rotor of a turbomachine exerts a force on the rotor and, hence, rotor shaft and bearing system. In some circumstances this force may lead to excitation of shaft whirl in the direction of impeller rotation.

Model predictions and experimental results for the rotordynamic characteristics of leakage flows in centrifugal pumps [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The role played by fluid forces in determining the rotordynamic stability and characteristics of a centrifugal pump is gaining increasing attention. The present research investigates the contributions to the rotordynamic forces from the discharge-to ...
