Comparing zero-profile and conventional cage and plate in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion using finite-element modeling

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Conventional cage and plate (CCP) implants usually used in ACDF surgery, do have limitations such as the development of postoperative dysphagia, adjacent segment degeneration, and soft tissue injury.

Combined shape and topology optimization for minimization of maximal von Mises stress [PDF]

open access: yesStructural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, 2017
This work shows that a combined shape and topology optimization method can produce optimal 2D designs with minimal stress subject to a volume constraint. The method represents the surface explicitly and discretizes the domain into a simplicial complex which adapts both structural shape and topology.

Comparison of von Mises stress by landmark.

open access: yes, 2013
Von Mises stress values are shown for fifteen landmarks from the face and the embedded enamel caps (a). Heterogeneous and homogeneous models under the incisal loads (b) and molar loads (c) differ in von Mises stress calculated in the developing enamel ...
