Wake Fields Behind Risers Undergoing Vortex-Induced Vibration
Volume 5: Materials Technology; CFD and VIV, 2008This paper presents measurements of the wake field behind three riser models obtained by using a Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV). The three riser models were a circular rigid cylinder, a cylinder fitted with fairings and a cylinder fitted with strakes.

Subsea Pipeline Vibration Dampers: Mitigation of Vortex Induced Vibrations
OTC Brasil, 2015A study is presented of the potential capacity of pipeline vibration dampers (PVDs) to mitigate vortex induced vibration (VIV) for subsea pipeline spans. The study also makes evaluations for VIV fatigue damage reductions that could be accomplished by PVDs for the spans.

Vortex induced vibration of circular cylinder
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1993Abstract The flow field around a vortex induced vibrating cylinder is analyzed by the numerical simulation using the discrete vortex model. When the vortex shedding locks in the vibration, the separated shear layers sway in a body like a pendulum.

Vortex Induced Vibration Monitoring of Completion Operations
IADC/SPE Asia Pacific Drilling Technology Conference, 2014Abstract Throughout drilling, completion and workover activities risers are subject to environmental loading from currents, waves and vessel offset, these dynamics could cause fatigue in the riser structure. Due to their smaller diameter, completion and workover risers (CWORs) are especially susceptible to Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV ...

Vortex-induced vibrations of a pivoted cylinder
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2005Much of the research into vortex-induced vibrations has been dedicated to the problem of a cylinder vibrating transverse to a fluid flow ($Y$-motion). There are very few papers studying the more practical case of vibration in two degrees of freedom ($XY$-motion), or the case where there is variation of amplitude along the span of a body.

Vortex-induced vibration on flexible cylinders
2005Vortex shedding and vortex-induced vibration (VIV) concepts are shown and discussed in this chapter. The basic knowledge regarding the mechanics of vortex shedding from bluff bodies and its relation to VIV is presented in the first sections. Some of the classical experimental and numerical results are shown, together with applications to marine ...
