Caustics of the vortex beams generated by vortex lenses and vortex axicons
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2020In this work, the propagation of vortex beams is treated using a catastrophe theory approach. Analytic expressions are deduced to describe caustic surfaces produced by vortex lenses and vortex axicons. The obtained analytics allow us to explain the formation of the shadow region along the optical axis for vortex beams using ...

Experimental Dynamics of a Vortex within a Vortex
Physical Review Letters, 2000We report the experimental dynamics of a new two-dimensional (2D) fluid phenomenon that occurs when an intense, pointlike vortex is placed within a diffuse, circular vortex. Our observations, made using strongly magnetized electron columns to model the 2D fluid, support the analysis performed by Jin and Dubin.

Convergence of the Vortex Method for Vortex Sheets
SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1989Summary: Computation of the evolution of vortex sheets is delicate because of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and singularity formation (infinite curvature). Convergence of the point vortex method and the vortex blob method is demonstrated for vortex sheets with both spatial and temporal discretization and with simulated roundoff error.

Interaction of a vortex ring with a piston vortex
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002Recent studies on vortex ring generation, e.g. Rosenfeld et al. (1998), have highlighted the subtle effect of generation geometry on the final properties of rings. Experimental generation of vortex rings often involves moving a piston through a tube, resulting in a vortex ring being generated at the tube exit.

One of the non-traditional types of renewable energy is vortex energy, which arises when swirling flows of continuous media (e.g., liquid and gas) are formed and which can be converted into thermal energy, work, and also used to raise the temperature in some systems or to create a pressure gradient.

Vortex configuration and vortex–vortex interaction in nano-structured superconductors
Physica C: Superconductivity, 2012Abstract We study the vortex structures and quasi-particle structures in nano-structured superconductors. We used the Bogoliubov–de Gennes equation and the finite element method and obtained stable magnetic flux structures and the quasi-particle states.
