Two-Vortex Models for Vortex Breakdown
ASME 2008 Dynamic Systems and Control Conference, Parts A and B, 2008A simple Hamiltonian dynamical systems model for vortex breakdown of the bubble-type (B-type) is developed and analyzed. This model is constructed using the flow induced by two point vortices moving in a half-plane immersed in an ideal (= inviscid and incompressible) fluid with an ambient uniform horizontal velocity.

On the identification of a vortex
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1995Considerable confusion surrounds the longstanding question of what constitutes a vortex, especially in a turbulent flow. This question, frequently misunderstood as academic, has recently acquired particular significance since coherent structures (CS) in turbulent flows are now

Vortex configuration and vortex–vortex interaction in nano-structured superconductors
Physica C: Superconductivity, 2012Abstract We study the vortex structures and quasi-particle structures in nano-structured superconductors. We used the Bogoliubov–de Gennes equation and the finite element method and obtained stable magnetic flux structures and the quasi-particle states.

Effects of Vortex-Vortex Interaction in a Compressor Cascade With Vortex Generators
Volume 2A: Turbomachinery, 2015This paper presents a numerical investigation to explore the effects of vortex generators on a high speed compressor cascade. Secondary flow effects like the corner separation vortex have an influence on the performance of a compressor cascade such as leading to increased losses.

We consider an infinite vortex line in a viscous fluid interacting with a plane boundary surface at right angles to the line. If the boundary surface were absent, the vortex would impart to the fluid a circular motion about the vortex line with speed inversely proportional to the distance to the line.

D uring the greater part of the twelfth century, Pisa was in a permanent state of war with Lucca; but, though the chroniclers of both cities record the vicissitudes of the struggle, it is by no means easy to arrive at a definite opinion with regard to anything but the general results. The most inaccurate of modern historians is relatively at the mercy
