Some effects of domain size and boundary conditions on the accuracy of airfoil simulations

open access: yesAdvances in Aerodynamics
This paper investigates a specific case of one of the most popular fluid dynamic simulations, the incompressible flow around an airfoil (NACA 0012 here) at a high Reynolds number ( $$6 \times 10^6$$ 6 × 10 6 ).

Bio-inspired vortex lift for enhanced manoeuvrability

open access: yes, 2022
Inspired by highly manoeuvrable species of birds like the peregrine falcon and the swift, static and dynamic computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted to investigate vortex lift in unsteady flows. The configuration corresponds to a 50◦ sweep delta wing with sharp leading edge at Re= 5.0×104.

Electrostatically‐Stabilized PEG‐Free Lipid Nanoparticles for Systemic Nucleic Acid Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes non‐PEGylated layered lipid nanoparticles (nonPEG LLNPs), a gene delivery platform that improves upon standard PEGylated LNPs via electrostatic adsorption of charged polymers. nonPEG LLNPs maintain colloidal stability under biological stresses, enhance circulation time, and mitigate accelerated blood clearance and hepatic ...

The influence of aspect ratio and attack angle on the field structure and dynamic characteristics of the flow around an ellipsoid [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
The flow of an incompressible viscous fluid around an ellipsoid at a moderate Reynolds number (Re = 300) is numerically investigated, revealing a series of variation laws related to vortex shedding, flow separation, and the lift and drag coefficients as ...

Advancements in Hypersaline Wastewater Treatment: The Promise of Quasi‐Liquid Surfaces to Reduce Salt Scaling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Durable quasi‐liquid polymer brush surfaces provide an anti‐scaling strategy for hypersaline brine evaporation and zero‐liquid‐discharge desalination. The smooth, liquid‐like QLS interface suppresses substrate‐side salt nucleation, promotes compact crystallization and dewetting, reduces crystal–surface contact area, and enables low‐adhesion salt ...

Effect of Synthetic Jet on NACA0012 Airfoil Vortex Structure and Aerodynamic Characteristics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
In this manuscript, the vortex generated by the main frequency excitation of the shedding vortex at various attack angles is investigated by employing the synthetic jet control technique.

Simultaneous Enhancement of Performance and Stability in Dual‐Gate a‐IGZO Thin‐Film Transistors via Single‐Step Laser Annealing for Capacitor‐Less DRAM

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A single‐step laser annealing strategy is presented for dual‐gate a‐IGZO TFTs. The steep thermal gradient induces graded oxygen doping in the channel and simultaneous WOx removal at the contacts, enabling concurrent interface and contact engineering.

Aerodynamics of a Wing with a Wingtip Flapper

open access: yesFluids, 2018
In the present study, an oscillating membrane flapper was pivotally attached to the tip of a conventional rigid wing. Stroke-averaged aerodynamic forces were measured for the range of the flapping frequency, showing significant increases in the lift ...

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE PARALLEL VORTEX AIRFOIL INTERACTION

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 1998
The effect of a strong vortex interacting with an airfoil flow is investigated numerically. The finite volume method for Euler equations is applied. lnstantanous flow patterns, including pressure distributions along the airfoil and lift coefficients ...
