Monomode Fibre Optic Vortex Shedding Flowmeter

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 1984
The use of a monomode optical fibre sensing element in the measurement of flow velocities by an interferometric technique is described, in which the operating principle is the flow induced oscillation of the fibre caused by vortex shedding. The system has been demonstrated to show a linear response with water flows in the Reynolds number range 100–3500.

Stress History Establishes a Transient Tolerant State That Shapes Antibiotic Survival Upon Resuscitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐throughput single‐cell analysis of resuscitating bacteria reveals a starvation‐history‐dependent transiently tolerant subpopulation that survives β$\beta$‐lactam exposure by temporarily reducing growth. Distinct from classical persisters, these actively growing yet dynamically modulated cells dominate survival across clinically relevant antibiotic

Early Detection and Inhibition of Post‐Surgical Cancer Recurrence by Synthetic Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An implantable hydrogel is designed to hold gene transfection agents engineered to turn early recurrent tumor cells into generators of synthetic EVs. These synthetic EVs can express engineered miR‐26a (E‐miR‐26a) for highly sensitive detection and PD‐1 (a PD‐L1‐blocking agent) for therapeutic intervention, thereby enabling early detection and ...

Multimodal Multiorgan‐on‐a‐Chip Platform for Probing Liver‐Tumor Interactions and Advancing Prodrug Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces a multimodal multi‐OoC platform that overcomes current limitations in liver‐tumor interaction studies and prodrug screening. By integrating dynamic microfluidic circuits, electrochemical sensing, and mass analysis, this platform enables non‐invasive, longitudinal monitoring of drug metabolism and hepatotoxicity, offering a ...

Advances and Perspectives in Graphene‐Based Quantum Dots Enabled Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene‐based QDs are zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials with pronounced quantum confinement and tunable electronic structures. Herein, we summarize their synthesis strategies and functionalization methods, and highlight their functional roles and operating mechanisms in devices, as well as recent advances in neuromorphic electronics. We anticipate

The Generation Mechanism of the Flow-Induced Noise from a Sail Hull on the Scaled Submarine Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Flow-induced noise from the sail hull, which is induced by the horseshoe vortex, the boundary layer separation and the tail vortex shedding, is a significant problem for the underwater vehicles, while has not been adequately studied.

Development of the wake behind a circular cylinder impulsively started into rotatory and rectilinear motion: Intermediate rotation rates [PDF]

open access: yes
The temporal development of two-dimensional viscous incompressible flow generated by a circular cylinder started impulsively into steady rotatory and rectilinear motion is studied by integration of a velocity/vorticity formulation of the governing ...

Vortex Sheddings on the Instability at Subsea Suspended Pipeline

open access: yesVolume 3: Pipeline and Riser Technology; Ocean Space Utilization, 2008
The underwater suspended pipeline was investigated for the lateral vibration which is applied for the oscillation of the pipeline part for vortex shedding. Firstly it is defined the tension force at the connection legs on the sea bottom. For definition of the dynamical equation it is used the analogy of the Mathieu Equation.
