Vortex shedding in a model of superflow [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1999
The present article represents part of the PhD. dissertation by C. Josserand. We discuss the nucleation of quantized vortices in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) for a flow around a disk in two spatial dimensions. It appears that the vortices are nucleated when the flow becomes locally (at the edge of the disk) supersonic.

Flow visualization observation of the interference vortex flow from a pair of square cylinders

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2023
In order to investigate the aspect of the mutual interference flow from two square cylinders, the visual water-flow observation experiment was performed. In the experiment, the pitch ratio L/d and the arrangement angle α were made into the parameter, and

Insights into Vortex Shedding with Data Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2009
Unsteady, three-dimensional characteristics of vortex shedding were studied with self-made MEMS sensors situated spanwisely on a circular cylinder subjected to uniform incoming flow. Firstly, verification on the reliability of the MEMS sensor signals was

The essence of generating vortex-within-a-vortex structures behind forked caudal fins

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
This work focuses on vortex-within-a-vortex (VV) structures behind three different shapes of forked caudal fin with a heaving-pitching motion. The results show that the synchronization of trailing-edge vortex separation and the shedding of the leading ...

Research on the Unsteady Flow and Vortex Characteristics of Cavitation at the Tongue in Centrifugal Pump [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
In order to study the unsteady flow and vortex characteristics of tongue cavitation, numerical calculation is carried out for the whole flow channel given different conditions. Then, the calculation results are verified experimentally.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Investigation on mechanism of flow induced vibration of spiral tube bundle in cross lead bismuth flow

open access: yesHe jishu, 2021
BackgroundThe flow induced vibration of spiral tube bundle widely exists engineering practice. The traditional fluid medium is water and air, whilst lead bismuth fluid has gradually become a new heat exchange medium in recent years.PurposeThis study aims

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces
