Breathing in Plants and Chaos—Cosmic Tree Events in Cameroon and Beyond

open access: yesAnthropology of Consciousness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Contemporary practices of tapping into the wisdom of ancestral trees are described through three entangled recent events lived within the context of Bantu practices in Cameroon. In the three instances, the steered or chance encounters with high potency trees were serendipitous telling moments which brought something new to the horizon.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Aquaculture Nets: The Critical Role of Solidity Ratio in Biofouling Assessment

open access: yesComputation
Biofouling on aquaculture netting increases hydrodynamic drag and restricts water exchange across net cages. The solidity ratio is introduced as a quantitative parameter to characterize fouling severity.

Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Study on the Propulsion Characteristics of a Flapping Flat-Plate Pumping Device

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To improve hydrodynamic conditions and self-purification in plain river networks, this study optimized an existing hydrofoil-based pumping device and redesigned its flow channel.

A Survey of Methods for Constructing 3D Urban Models From Point Clouds

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
The survey outlines a general process for constructing 3D models from point clouds and categorizes the methods based on their use of templates, basic surface primitives, hybrid approaches, or linear primitives. Additionally, the survey reviews the datasets and benchmarks that are essential for testing and training the developed methods.

On the phenomenon of vortex street breakdown

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 1971
A von Kármán vortex street generated in the usual way was subjected to a deceleration, thereby changing the ratio of longitudinal to lateral spacing between the vortices. Distortion of the individual vortices followed which resulted in annihilation of concentrated vortex regions and creation of a stationary wake flow.

Story2Board: A Training‐Free Approach for Expressive Visual Storytelling

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present Story2Board, a training‐free framework for expressive storyboard generation from natural language. Existing methods narrowly focus on subject identity, overlooking key aspects of visual storytelling such as spatial composition, background evolution, and narrative pacing.

Visualizing Image Segmentation Network Behavior Through the Lens of Scale Space Analysis

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Deep neural networks are widely used for image segmentation, also in sensitive applications such as medical imaging or autonomous driving. However, few explainable AI methods are available that help developers understand such networks beyond classification.
