Study on the Propulsion Characteristics of a Flapping Flat-Plate Pumping Device

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To improve hydrodynamic conditions and self-purification in plain river networks, this study optimized an existing hydrofoil-based pumping device and redesigned its flow channel.

Nonlinear stabilitty for steady vortex pairs

open access: yes, 2012
In this article, we prove nonlinear orbital stability for steadily translating vortex pairs, a family of nonlinear waves that are exact solutions of the incompressible, two-dimensional Euler equations.

F IS FOR FALCON: THE TRUE STORY OF THE ‘NOVELLE’

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article takes a closer look at the Boccaccio story upon which Paul Heyse based his famous ‘Falken‐Theorie’ of the ‘Novelle’. The essay then links Boccaccio to a general account of storytelling as an aid to survival amid the hostility of nature and human circumstances.

Contour Dynamics Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
In an early paper on the stability of fluid layers with uniform vorticity Rayleigh (1880) remarks: "... In such cases, the velocity curve is composed of portions of straight lines which meet each other at finite angles.

On the phenomenon of vortex street breakdown

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 1971
A von Kármán vortex street generated in the usual way was subjected to a deceleration, thereby changing the ratio of longitudinal to lateral spacing between the vortices. Distortion of the individual vortices followed which resulted in annihilation of concentrated vortex regions and creation of a stationary wake flow.

Discovering Legacies: Fathers, Sons, Masculinities, and Equity Within Families

open access: yesJournal of Family Theory &Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this article, I examine how personal experiences within my family and my homeplace communities have shaped 20 years of basic and applied research, as well as theorizing, on fathering and masculinities. I focus on how my practice of reflexive research has led me to discover legacies of masculinities across generations of my own family ...

Vortex merging in the vortex street behind a circular cylinder.

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences, 1988
The mechanism of rearrangement of the vortex street in the wake behind a circular cylinder at low Reynolds numbers was investigated in a low speed wind tunnel. The pairing of two vortices in the streamwise vortex rows of the so-called Karman vortex street took place downstream of the primary vortex street of regular arrangement at Reynolds numbers ...

Artificial Intelligence in Climate and Sustainable Finance: A Blessing or a Curse?

open access: yesJournal of Economic Surveys, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While there are concerns regarding the sustainability of artificial intelligence (AI), it is a potential ally in the transition toward a greener future. It offers advanced tools for data analysis; risk modeling; and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) assessment.

Electronic Smoking Devices Among University Students: Usage Patterns and Chemical Composition of Inhaled Substances

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 7, Issue 1, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the prevalence of electronic smoking device (ESD) use and its associated behavioural and chemical risks among university students in Bahia, Brazil. A cross‐sectional survey was conducted with 355 students from public and private institutions through an online questionnaire between April and May 2023. Among participants,

Supercritical‐flow structures in a Cretaceous submarine channel–lobe transition zone, Point Loma Formation, California

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 3, June 2026.
We document meter‐scale antidune and cyclic‐step deposits in channel–lobe transition zone (CLTZ) deposits of the Upper Cretaceous Point Loma Formation in San Diego, California. These results provide new insights into sediment transport dynamics in CLTZ environments, which are critical for understanding reservoir connectivity and heterogeneity in ...
