Visualization of an Isolated Vortex Ring Generated from Step-Like Wind Variation and the Overshoot Phenomenon of Axial Velocity

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2011
The flow field of a free square jet generated from an unsteady wind tunnel with a step-like axial velocity variation was measured using an ultrasonic anemometer. Three-dimensional velocity vector fields were synthesized by computational modeling from the

Experiment and numerical simulation of an aluminum circular-blade butterfly wind turbine

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2016
To reduce costs involved in manufacturing small wind turbines, an aluminum circular-blade butterfly wind turbine (ACBBWT) has been developed, in which four blades of the turbine were extruded and bent to shape then attached directly to a rotating flange.

A Study on Swirling Jets Flow Controlled by Two Tandem Bodies

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
This study presents the effects of using two centerbodies arranged in tandem on the flow and velocity properties of swirling jets. The centerbodies are installed concentrically downstream of the jets to modify the wake.

Whispering Vortices [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2000
Experiments indicating the excitation of whispering gallery type electromagnetic modes by a vortex moving in an annular Josephson junction are reported. At relativistic velocities the Josephson vortex interacts with the modes of the superconducting stripline resonator giving rise to novel resonances on the current-voltage characteristic of the junction.

Transformation of the Peregrine Breather Into Gray Solitons on a Vertically Sheared Current

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
In this Brief Research Report, we show, within the framework of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in deep water and in the presence of vorticity (vor-NLS), that the Peregrine breather traveling at the free surface of a shear current of slowly varying ...

Evidence for enhanced primary production resulting from relative vorticity induced upwelling in the Catalan Current

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2004
In baroclinic fronts, jets and eddies, potential vorticity, P = (V + f) / D, connects horizontal motions of planetary vorticity, f, and relative vorticity, V, to vertical transport through increases and decreases of the water column height, D.

On The Effect of Flow Direction on Mixed Convection Around Heated Circular Cylinder [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2009
A numerical investigation of laminar mixed convection around horizontal isothermalcylinder is presented. The free stream direction varies between the vertically upward(assisting flow) and vertically downward (opposing flow).

Embedded vortices [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1998
We present a discussion of embedded vortices in general Yang-Mills theories. The origin of a family structure of solutions is shown to be group theoretic in nature and a procedure for its determination is developed. Vortex stability can be quantified into three types: Abelian topological stability, non-Abelian topological stability, and dynamical ...

Effects of Abrupt Cross-Section Area Change on theMultiparameter Propagation Characteristics of Premixed Methane–Air Explosion in Pipes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This paper explores the effects of an abrupt cross-section area change of gas pipes on the propagation law of explosion. For this, an explosion pipe experimental system was established, and a numerical research was conducted.

Vortices and Polynomials [PDF]

open access: yesStudies in Applied Mathematics, 2009
The relationship between point vortex dynamics and the properties of polynomials with roots at the vortex positions is discussed. Classical polynomials, such as the Hermite polynomials, have roots that describe the equilibria of identical vortices on the line. Stationary and uniformly translating vortex configurations with vortices of the same strength
