Can Brand Affinity Outperform Political Parties' Rejection When Nominating Celebrity Politicians in a Post-Rebellion Multi-Party Context?

open access: yesAsian Journal for Public Opinion Research, 2023
In competitive political contexts, sustaining power is the ultimate goal for political parties. Nominating celebrity politicians can be a double-edged sword for parent brands in attracting votes and influencing voting intention. This study contributes to

Pricing Dynamics in the US Hemp Market: A Vertical Price Transmission Analysis of the Hemp Value Chain

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The US hemp market is a new and nascent industry that has been devoid of research for about half a century. This study examined the effects of exogenous shock on price at each phase of the value chain—Farm (hemp biomass), and its impact on prices at other phases of the value chain—Intermediary Processor (crude cannabidiol hemp) and Final ...

What to Make and How to Make It: Combining Machine Learning and Statistical Learning to Design New Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Combining machine learning and probabilistic statistical learning is a powerful way to discover and design new materials. A variety of machine learning approaches can be used to identify promising candidates for target applications, and causal inference can help identify potential ways to make them a reality.

Clinically Informed Intelligent Classification of Ovarian Cancer Cells by Label‐Free Holographic Imaging Flow Cytometry

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Quantitative phase maps of single cells recorded in flow cytometry modality feed a hierarchical architecture of machine learning models for the label‐free identification of subtypes of ovarian cancer. The employment of a priori clinical information improves the classification performance, thus emulating the clinical application of liquid biopsy during ...

Consensus-based methods for distributed systems, blockchain, and voting: a survey

open access: yesJournal of Information and Telecommunication
Condorcet and Borda first introduced the consensus theory in the eighteenth century when they studied voting systems. Consensus problems have been investigated for a long time in many fields such as economics, sociology, computer science, bioinformatics,

Soft Magnetic Sensor Array for Amphibious Measurement of 3D Muscle Deformation Distribution for Human Motion Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article develops a soft magnetic sensor array to extract 3D and distributional muscle deformations, which has highly consistent measurements in amphibious environments, robustness to hydraulic pressure, and about 200 ms faster response than an inertial measurement unit, achieving over 98% classification accuracy and below 3% phase estimation ...

Loss‐Based Ensemble Generative Adversarial Network Model for Enhancing the Sperm Morphology Classification

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A loss‐based ensemble generative adversarial network (GAN) framework is proposed to address mode collapse in sperm morphology classification. By integrating spatial augmentation and multiple GAN models, the study enhances synthetic data quality. The Shifted Window Transformer achieves 95.37% accuracy on the HuSHeM dataset, outperforming previous ...

Applying the Situational Theory of Publics to the first external voting process for Costa Ricans abroad: Lessons for international public relations and public diplomacy / Aplicación de la Teoría Situacional de los Públicos al primer proceso de voto en el

open access: yesRevista Internacional de Relaciones Públicas, 2015
Using information gathered from 40 interviews with Costa Ricans who live abroad (some who decided to vote in the newly granted external voting right and others who did not vote in the Costa Rican National Elections of 2014), the variables that impacted ...

Real‐Time, Label‐Free Classification of Cell Death Pathways via Holotomography‐Based Deep Learning Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A 3D holotomography system coupled with a deep learning model distinguishes how cells die—apoptosis, necroptosis or necrosis—without any fluorescent labels. Training on refractive index maps of HeLa cells yields 97% accuracy and flags necroptosis hours before chemical dyes.
