Broadening Virus Resistance Through Gene Pyramiding of eIF4E Family Members. [PDF]
Gene mutations in nCBP combined with eIF4E1 or eIFiso4E reduced diverse virus accumulation, underscoring the potential of gene pyramiding in the eIF4E family for broad‐spectrum virus resistance. ABSTRACT Recessive resistance, achieved through mutations in host susceptibility genes, offers an effective way for controlling plant viruses. One well‐studied

Evaluating the Negative-Strand Coding Potential in Plum Pox Virus. [PDF]
Plum pox virus produces two polyproteins from ORFs in the positive strand. This study explores the possible expression of peptides from negative‐strand ORFs (rORFs). ABSTRACT Recent studies proposed that the negative strands of some single‐stranded, positive‐sense RNA viruses contain reverse open reading frames (rORFs) that encode functional peptides ...

Uridylylation of the Potyvirus VPg by Viral Replicase NIb Correlates with the Nucleotide Binding Capacity of VPg [PDF]
Poty- and picornaviruses share similar genome organizations and polyprotein processing strategies. By analogy to picornaviruses it has been proposed that the genome-linked protein VPg may serve as a primer for genome replication of potyviruses. The multifunctional VPg of potato virus A (PVA; genus Potyvirus) was found to be uridylylated by NIb, the RNA

A vertex-based finite volume method applied to non-linear material problems in computational solid mechanics [PDF]
A vertex-based finite volume (FV) method is presented for the computational solution of quasi-static solid mechanics problems involving material non-linearity and infinitesimal strains. The problems are analysed numerically with fully unstructured meshes

VPg-mediated Aggregation of Potyviral RNA
RNA prepared from the potyvirus tobacco vein mottling virus contained aggregates of the 9.5 kb genomic RNA with electrophoretic mobilities corresponding to 20 and 41 kb species. Similar aggregates were present in preparations of the RNAs of two other potyviruses.

Etched graphene quantum dots on hexagonal boron nitride [PDF]
We report on the fabrication and characterization of etched graphene quantum dots (QDs) on hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and SiO2 with different island diameters. We perform a statistical analysis of Coulomb peak spacings over a wide energy range.

Picornaviral VPg sequences are contained in the replicase precursor [PDF]
It has previously been shown that the RNA replicase of encephalomyocarditis virus contains two virus-coded proteins, D and E, which are produced in two successive proteolytic steps: (i) C leads to D + ?; and (ii) D leads to p22 + E. It is here shown (i) that virus protein H (molecular weight, 12,000) is the previously unidentified product of the first ...

Thermoelectric Properties of Electrostatically Tunable Antidot Lattices
We report on the fabrication and characterization of a device which allows the formation of an antidot lattice (ADL) using only electrostatic gating. The antidot potential and Fermi energy of the system can be tuned independently.

VPG and EPG bend-numbers of Halin graphs
A piecewise linear curve in the plane made up of $k+1$ line segments, each of which is either horizontal or vertical, with consecutive segments being of different orientation is called a $k$-bend path. Given a graph $G$, a collection of $k$-bend paths in which each path corresponds to a vertex in $G$ and two paths have a common point if and only if the
