A Slow Merger History of Field Galaxies Since z~1

open access: yes, 2003
Using deep infrared observations conducted with the CISCO imager on the Subaru Telescope, we investigate the field-corrected pair fraction and the implied merger rate of galaxies in redshift survey fields with Hubble Space Telescope imaging.

Implementation of an Integrated Pharmacology Curriculum in a Flipped, Small‐Group, Case‐Based, Pre‐Clerkship Medical Curriculum Improved Student Performance

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 14, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Rush Medical College implemented a new, integrated pre‐clerkship curriculum. Pharmacology was integrated with other basic sciences into a flipped, small‐group, case‐based structure. This report describes the main features of the pharmacology curriculum for pharmacology directors to have a template.

Antimicrobial Secondary Metabolites From Rhizosphere‐Associated Streptomyces Species in Northern Nigerian Agricultural Soils: Genomic Mining and Bioactivity Assessment

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Nigerian agricultural soils harbour diverse Streptomyces species producing novel antimicrobial secondary metabolites. Genomic mining revealed 187 biosynthetic gene clusters, leading to isolation of twelve new compounds with potent activity against multidrug‐resistant pathogens, including MRSA and vancomycin‐resistant Enterococcus. ABSTRACT Streptomyces

Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) screening and isolation in the general medicine ward: a cost-effectiveness analysis

open access: yesAntimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control, 2019
Background Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) are a serious antimicrobial resistant threat in the healthcare setting. We assessed the cost-effectiveness of VRE screening and isolation for patients at high-risk for colonisation on a general medicine ...

Global tracking for an underactuated ships with bounded feedback controllers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we present a global state feedback tracking controller for underactuated surface marine vessels. This controller is based on saturated control inputs and, under an assumption on the reference trajectory, the closed-loop system is globally ...

Seeing Anxiety: Ecological Video Ethnography and Simulation to Understand Anxiety and Decision‐Making in Dental Care

open access: yesHealth Expectations, Volume 29, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Dental anxiety is a widespread barrier to care, often contributing to appointment avoidance, treatment disruption, and emotional strain for both patients and clinicians. While extensively studied as a psychological trait, less attention has been paid to how anxiety manifests situationally and relationally, through non‐verbal ...

Free Energy Methods for Bayesian Inference: Efficient Exploration of Univariate Gaussian Mixture Posteriors

open access: yes, 2011
Because of their multimodality, mixture posterior distributions are difficult to sample with standard Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. We propose a strategy to enhance the sampling of MCMC in this context, using a biasing procedure which ...
