Observability analysis of power system including VSC-HVDC

International Conference on Sustainable Power Generation and Supply (SUPERGEN 2012), 2012
The mathematical model of Voltage Source Converter (VSC) is totally different from the mathematical model of AC system. The observability analysis methods for AC system should be improved for modern power systems including VSC-HVDC. This paper presents an observability analysis algorithm for VSC-AC system.

Nonlinear control scheme for VSC-HVDC transmission systems

2008 12th International Middle-East Power System Conference, 2008
This paper presents a nonlinear control scheme for VSC-HVDC transmission system. The design of the proposed nonlinear controller has been performed in a rotating reference frame fixed to the grid voltage vectors. The controller is designed to provide high dynamic performance and complete decouple control of active and reactive power.

Impact of VSC HVdc on AC System Generation

13th IET International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission (ACDC 2017), 2017
This paper investigates the impact of different control modes of VSC HVdc to the transient stability of power systems. VSC HVdc offers fast bi-directional power control in addition to fast ac voltage control. This feature is utilized in this study to enhance the transient stability of a conventional generator in a power system.

Integral backstepping control design for VSC-HVDC systems

2014 15th International Conference on Sciences and Techniques of Automatic Control and Computer Engineering (STA), 2014
This paper presents a backstepping control strategy based on Lyapunov theory for VSC-HVDC transmission systems. The controller is able to ensure the tracking of the output variables and the stability of the studied power system. Indeed, the required performances have been improved using a nonlinear Backstepping method where an integral action is added.

Frequency control capability of VSC-HVDC transmission system

11th IET International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission, 2015
High voltage direct current (HVDC) systems have been used as an effective solution to transmit power over long distances. Performance of HVDC systems has significantly improved with the emergence of voltage source converter based HVDC (VSC-HVDC). Increased controllability provides independent control of active and reactive power which facilitates ...

Simplified Modeling of VSC-HVDC in Power System Stability Studies

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2014
Abstract This paper presents a simplified modeling approach for a voltage source converter based high voltage DC transmission line (VSC-HVDC) for use in power system dynamic studies. In the AC grid sending-end and receiving-end converters (SEC and REC) of the HVDC system are represented by controlled Thevenin sources.
