Moment coefficients for design of waffle slabs with and without openings
Engineering Structures, 2011Abstract The direct design method recommended by ACI is commonly used for the design of flat slabs. Since the flexural stiffness of the waffle slab varies along the span, it is expected that the distribution of moments is different from that of flat slabs. Current design procedures do not provide recommendations specific of waffle slabs.

In this paper, the optimum design of some floor systems, including composite slab, one way waffle slab, and the formwork of a concrete slab, is performed via recently developed meta-heuristic algorithms, namely, the Charged System Search (CSS) and the ...

A Study on a Two-Way Post-Tensioned Concrete Waffle Slab
Post-tensioned construction has for a long period of time occupied a significant position, especially in the construction of bridges, storage tanks, but also in buildings. In this paper are presented the aspects of a square shaped waffle slab calculation,

Feasibility of waffle slabs for bridges
Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 1983Waffle slabs, although extensively used in buildings, are rarely employed in bridges. Part of the reason for this situation is that a waffle slab, forming essentially a two-way load distribution system, is intuitively considered by many bridge engineers to be incompatible with the basically one-way load transferring system of a bridge.

Dynamic Characteristics of Prestressed Waffle Slabs
Journal of Structural Engineering, 1990The dynamic response and fatigue behavior of rectangular and skew prestressed concrete waffle slabs are investigated. Such slabs have several advantages over the more conventional slabs when used as decks for concrete bridges and as process floors in semiconductor manufacturing plants.

Rigidities of Nonorthogonally Shaped Waffle Slabs
Journal of the Structural Division, 1982Theoretical formulae are presented for the various rigidities of non-orthogonally shaped waffle concrete slabs for both the precracking and postcracking stages. The deduced expressions for the flexural, coupling and torsional rigidites are applicable to both reinforced and prestressed concrete constructions.

Eccentric Punching on Edge Waffle Slabs
2021This paper presents the test results of six 1/10th scale micro-concrete waffle slabs subjected to eccentric punching at the vicinity of edge columns. It was observed from tests that the punching mechanism of slab having their edge column is located by the free edge to be similar to those having their edge column at the centre of the edge solid region ...

Analysis of Waffle Slabs with and without Openings
Structures Congress 2009, 2009Current design procedures do not provide recommendations specific for waffle slabs. Designers smear the contribution of the ribs and use the design guidelines for flat slabs to design ribbed slabs. In addition, the effect of openings on the response of waffle slabs is not fully explored.

Waffle Slabs Supported on Rows of Columns
Journal of Structural Mechanics, 1981ABSTRACT By incorporating recent theoretical developments covering plates with eccentric stiffeners, an approximate analysis of reinforced concrete waffle slabs supported on rows of columns is presented. The corner slab panel is treated as a rectangular orthotropic slab supported at its four corners, and its solution can be put in a simple closed form.

Waffle, Ribbed and Composite Joists Slabs: A Review Study
Construction Technologies and Architecture, 2023Due to the importance of the joists slab system as an excellent solution for increasing span demands in different building types, investigating its properties becomes essential for different researchers. The effects of numerous parameters on the structural behaviour of the joists slab system, whether it was a waffle, ripped, or composite sections were ...
