Associations in waist circumference.

open access: yes, 2016
Associations between parental waist circumference-based overweight (related to WHO`s cut-off level) and offspring`s waist circumference z-scores at two time points (1995–97 and 2006–08), with both parents being overweight, only mothers being overweight ...

Probiotics‐derived postbiotics improve host metabolic syndrome by activating the adipocyte thermogenic signaling pathway in high‐fat diet‐fed mice

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
This schematic illustrates how probiotics‐derived postbiotics (PLBK®1–5) combat high‐fat diet‐induced obesity. Postbiotics remodel gut microbiota, boosting beneficial metabolites. These metabolites activate adipocyte thermogenesis (Ucp1/AMPK pathway), resulting in reduced body weight, improved insulin sensitivity, and alleviated hepatic steatosis in ...

The mediating roles of gut microbiota in the associations of air pollution and meteorological factors with metabolic syndrome

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
We characterized distinct gut microbial community clusters associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and identified key genera underlying these patterns. Health‐associated clusters were dominated by beneficial genera such as Bacteroides and Prevotella with known metabolic protective functions.

Insulin Resistance: An Update on Biochemical and Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Impact on Various Diseases

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Insulin resistance is the biological phenomenon in which the human body's normal response to the metabolic hormone insulin is compromised. Insulin is a regulator of most of the essential metabolic steps in the body that control energy homoeostasis, so dysregulation leads to multiple diverse human diseases including, most prominently, Type 2 ...

Comparison Between Respiratory‐Triggered and Free‐Breathing Signal Acquisition Methods for Single‐Voxel Phosphorus Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of the Liver on a Clinical System

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The optimal protocol for clinical liver 31P‐magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) remains unclear. Single‐voxel 31P‐MRS using image‐selected in vivo spectroscopy (ISIS) employs respiratory‐triggering (RT) or free‐breathing (FB) acquisition.

Waist Circumference as the Newest Vital Sign: An Evaluation of Abdominal Obesity in the Healthcare Setting

open access: yes
DNP projectIntroduction/Purpose: Body mass index (BMI), which is based on the height and weight of an individual, has traditionally been the sole screening tool to identify obesity in the clinical setting.

Predicting The Risk Of Diabetes With BMI And Waist Circumference In Older Taiwanese

open access: yes, 2012
[[abstract]]Background: Diabetes is an issue in public health and clinical medicine. Many studies have been conducted to pinpoint the predictors of diabetes in older adults, but the predictive ability of BMI and waist circumference has not been carefully

Periodontitis and its association with left ventricular geometry and function: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigated the cross‐sectional association between periodontal status and left ventricular (LV) geometry and function, an early and prognostically relevant marker of cardiovascular disease. Methods Data were drawn from two population‐based cohorts in the Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP): SHIP‐START‐2 (N = 2333) and ...
