Experimental analysis of the wake behind a small wind-turbine model in yaw

open access: yes, 2023
In this work we study the wake of a yawed wind-turbine model immersed in an atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). The ABL is replicated in the wind tunnel by means of a barrier-spires and distributed roughness configuration and is representative of a rural ...

Wind Turbine Wake Modeling in Accelerating Wind Field: A Preliminary Study on a Two-Dimensional Hill

open access: yesFluids, 2019
Complex terrain can influence wind turbine wakes and wind speed profiles in a wind farm. Consequently, predicting the performance of wind turbines and energy production over complex terrain is more difficult than it is over flat terrain.

Cracking the Code: Which Ocular Symptoms Predict Dry Eye Signs? Insights From a Large International Sicca Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The study aimed to identify symptom‐based predictors of dry eye disease (DED) signs in the Sjögren's International Collaborative Clinical Alliance (SICCA) cohort. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis examining 16 ocular symptoms (most graded 0–4) and artificial tear (AT) use (graded 0–3) as predictors of DED signs (abnormal ocular ...

A 3D hybrid simulation study of the electromagnetic field distributions in the lunar wake

open access: yes, 2011
As a consequence of its lack of a thick atmosphere and an ionosphere, the interaction of the solar wind with the Moon is characterized by the direct impact of the solar wind on its sunward hemisphere.

A New Analytical Wake Model for Yawed Wind Turbines

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
A new analytical wake model for wind turbines, considering ambient turbulence intensity, thrust coefficient and yaw angle effects, is proposed from numerical and analytical studies.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Unsteady wake modelling for tidal current turbines

open access: yes, 2011
The authors present a numerical model for three-dimensional unsteady wake calculations for tidal turbines. Since wakes are characterised by the shedding of a vortex sheet from the rotor blades, the model is based on the vorticity transport equations.

Influence of blade aerodynamic model on prediction of helicopter rotor aeroacoustic signatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Brown’s vorticity transport model has been used to investigate how the local blade aerodynamic model influences the quality of the prediction of the high-frequency airloads associated with blade–vortex interactions, and thus the accuracy with which the ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
