Towards a better understanding of yawed turbine wake for efficient wake steering in tidal arrays
Renewable Energy, 2021Abstract Tidal stream turbines (TST) deployed in open-water energetic sites are often unintentionally at yaw to the incoming flow that causes performance degradation and deflection of the wake. Wake steering is a popular concept in wind arrays where the upstream turbine is operated intentionally at yaw to steer the wake away from a downstream turbine.

A Hybrid Free Wake Simulation Comparison of Turbine Wake Steering With Innovative Turbine Designs
Volume 9: Oil and Gas Applications; Supercritical CO2 Power Cycles; Wind Energy, 2017Wake shielding in wind farms caused by the interaction of upstream energy-depleted wakes and down-stream turbines substantially reduces individual turbine efficiency and overall wind farm performance. A method is studied to alleviate this problem using shaft tilting to steer wakes upward and reduce the interaction with downstream turbines.
