A non-symmetric Gaussian wake model for lateral wake-to-wake interactions

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2023
Abstract In this paper, we propose a new non-symmetric Gaussian wake model, which allows for different lateral expansions on the two sides of a wake to account for its interaction with neighbouring wakes. The proposed model is formulated following classical speed-deficit assumptions and momentum conservation.

Alterations in gut microbiota and metabolites contribute to postoperative sleep disturbances

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In this study, we classified postoperative patients into poor sleepers (PS) and good sleepers (GS) based on the bispectral index (BIS), and transplanted their fecal microbiota to pseudo‐germ‐free rats to analyze the sleep changes in rats and the potential mechanism.

State- or trait-like individual differences in dream recall. Preliminary findings from a within-subjects study of multiple nap REM sleep awakenings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We examined the question whether the role of EEG oscillations in predicting presence/absence of dream recall (DR) is explained by "state-" or "trait-like" factors.

Cortical excitability signatures for the degree of sleepiness in human

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Sleep is essential in maintaining physiological homeostasis in the brain. While the underlying mechanism is not fully understood, a ‘synaptic homeostasis’ theory has been proposed that synapses continue to strengthen during awake and undergo downscaling ...

Wake interactions between two side-by-side circular cylinders with different sizes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Flows over two side-by-side circular cylinders exhibit fascinating flow physics due to complex interactions between the coupled wakes. However, their mutual interference effects have not been elucidated in a quantitative manner thus far. In this paper, we create a mismatch between the two wakes by introducing a size difference in the cylinder pair ...

TMCI threshold with space charge and different wake fields [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. ST Accel. Beams 20, 034401 (2017), 2016
Transverse mode coupling instability of a bunch with space charge and wake field is considered within the frameworks of the boxcar model. Eigenfunctions of the bunch without wake are used as a basis for the solution of the equations with the wake field included.

Dynamic BOLD functional connectivity in humans and its electrophysiological correlates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Neural oscillations subserve many human perceptual and cognitive operations. Accordingly, brain functional connectivity is not static in time, but fluctuates dynamically following the synchronization and desynchronization of neural populations.

Of dreaming and wakefulness

open access: yesNeuroscience, 1991
Following a set of studies concerning the intrinsic electrophysiology of mammalian central neurons in relation to global brain function, we reach the following conclusions: (i) the main difference between wakefulness and paradoxical sleep lies in the weight given to sensory afferents in cognitive images; (ii) otherwise, wakefulness and paradoxical ...
