A moment in time: from the digital record of a migrating library [PDF]
This paper draws on the work of the Arts & Humanities Research Council-funded Glasgow Cassirer Project, which makes correspondence and documents relating to the German philosopher Ernst Cassirer (1874-1945) available online. The paper concentrates on

miRNAs link metabolic reprogramming to oncogenesis [PDF]
The most profound biochemical phenotype of cancer cells is their ability to metabolize glucose to lactate, even under aerobic conditions. This alternative metabolic circuitry is sufficient to support the biosynthetic and energy requirements for cancer ...

SparseFormer: Attention-based Depth Completion Network [PDF]
Most pipelines for Augmented and Virtual Reality estimate the ego-motion of the camera by creating a map of sparse 3D landmarks. In this paper, we tackle the problem of depth completion, that is, densifying this sparse 3D map using RGB images as guidance.

Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystals as anode of lithium ion battery [PDF]
In this paper, Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystal alloy was used as anode material of lithium-ion batteries. The first specific discharge capacity of quasicrystal was 204mAh/g. Cyclic voltammetry showed that oxidation peak of Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystal was at about 1.4V. The reduction peak was at 0.3V.

Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects nearly one‐third of the global population and poses a significant risk of progression to cirrhosis or liver cancer. Here, we discuss the roles of hepatic dendritic cell subtypes in MASLD, highlighting their distinct contributions to disease initiation and progression, and their ...

Warburg effect: cancer cells metabolism [PDF]

Molecular crowding defines a common origin for the Warburg effect in proliferating cells and the lactate threshold in muscle physiology [PDF]
Aerobic glycolysis is a seemingly wasteful mode of ATP production that is seen both in rapidly proliferating mammalian cells and highly active contracting muscles, but whether there is a common origin for its presence in these widely different systems is

Laplacian Autoencoders for Learning Stochastic Representations [PDF]
Established methods for unsupervised representation learning such as variational autoencoders produce none or poorly calibrated uncertainty estimates making it difficult to evaluate if learned representations are stable and reliable. In this work, we present a Bayesian autoencoder for unsupervised representation learning, which is trained using a novel

The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...
